https://www.politicalflare.com/2021/10/now-its-getting-real-jim-jordan-may-be-the-next-subpoened-by-the-house-select-committee/There is a reason that Kevin McCarthy nominated Jim Jordan for the proposed bipartisan January 6th commission. There was a reason that Nancy Pelosi immediately rejected Jordan as a possible material witness.
There is a reason that during the January 6th riots, when Jim Jordan sought to protect the ladies (his words) in Congress and offered to help Liz Cheney, she told him to not dare touch her and that he wasnt helping her because YOU, fcking did this, which we always believed to be an awfully personal statement in the moment because we doubt that was you, plural. She said Jordan did this (certainly with others, though there is no proof as of yet).
The reason is that in some way, somehow, perhaps by appearance only, (but likely much more), everyone in Congress knows that Jim Jordan had something to do with January 6th, even if it was just advanced knowledge.
The committee thinks Jordan knows something because many believe that the committee is about to subpoena Jordan an extraordinary move. We dont know how often Congress has sought to subpoena another member of Congress, it cannot happen often.

(16,926 posts)he'll wear a jacket while being questioned - you know, to look "professional?"
Then again, things may be getting SO hot in his corner of the world that he'll just show up in short and a T-shirt..........
I hope they fry that soul-less piece of low-life scum.......

(21,337 posts)to process Bannon's case and he was low hanging fruit, just a private citizen.
I get tired of saying this but DOJ is going to have to take the lead because time is of the essence. Barr appointed John Durham to investigate the Russia/Trump investigation and according to what Garland said yesterday Durham was just given money to continue his investigation. When Garland said that I nearly puked. WTF can't Garland appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the insurrection? Barr even put in safeguards to protect Durham from being removed.
If I hear one more person push for patience I'm going to get my doctor to prescribe me some Xanax.

(6,254 posts)get one pretty fast. Why does it take months to enforce a subpoena? In State court a judge can issue a court order you file a motion to compel the witness to appear on a certain day, time and place and if they dont appear a self-executing order will direct the sheriff to go out and arrest the witness to face a contempt hearing.
The Wizard
(12,545 posts)and show cause. If ignored the Sheriff takes the witness into custody, not all that complicated.

(6,917 posts)The case may drag on in the court system, but arresting Bannon and taking him into custody can happen now. Let him watch the proceedings from inside a jail cell.
Or he can obey the subpoena like the email lady did.
She had nothing to hide.

(8,739 posts)All three made B-Lines to Bannon pod cast after each hearing to slam the committee as illegal and a witch hunt. Those are some of the ring leaders in the planning and execution. Watch his guest list coming, Gohmert, Bang Bang Barbie, Graham, the bobble head shit stain that all his siblings hate, and the fist pumping rah rah asshole. FBI needs to focus on each of Bannon guests. It is a Roster of the traitors that worked with the insurrectionist. All these assholes need to be locked up, with Mike Flynn and all the GQO terrorists in GITMO and put the better behaved Iraq prisoners as guards.

(34,051 posts)The Case for Subpoenaing Members of Congress to Testify on the January 6 Insurrection
Democrats have strong constitutional arguments on their side.
*snip*
If committee subpoenas are issued and ignored, Thompson will have three potential means of enforcement. First, Congress can vote to ask the Justice Department to criminally prosecute someone for being in contempt of Congress. Second, it can rely on its inherent authority to have the sergeant-at-arms for the House or Senate detain, bring to the floor, and ultimately imprison the violator. Or third, it can file a civil action in federal court, secure an order directing compliance, and ask the court to issue a contempt-of-court citation if the order is violated. Presumably, reluctant GOP members in receipt of subpoenas from the select committee would welcome a court battle, as litigation would delay the committees work for months and any ruling would likely be appealed to the Supreme Court.
The legal argument against a subpoena, such as it were, rests on the Constitutions speech-or-debate clause, which states that for any Speech or Debate in either House, members of Congress shall not be questioned in any other Place (emphasis added). Arguably, the plain text suggests that inquiries in Congress itselfas distinct from the criminal-justice system, which is controlled by the executive branch, or a civil lawsuit brought before the judicial branchare fair game. But no court has faced this precise issue to date.
