...There is a High Risk of excessive rainfall over the Sierra Nevada
Mountains and a Slight Risk of excessive rainfall over the Middle
Mississippi and Ohio Valleys on Sunday into Monday morning...
...Heavy snow for the Sierra Nevada Mountains...
...There is a Slight Risk severe thunderstorms over the Central Plains and
Middle Mississippi Valley through Sunday morning...
A strong storm in the Eastern Pacific will impact the West Coast over the
next several days. On Sunday, the associated front moves into the West
Coast, advancing inland to the Northern High Plains to the Great
Basin/Southern California by Monday evening. Moisture will stream into
Central/Northern California overnight Saturday, turning into a powerful
stream of moisture on Sunday. On Monday, the moisture stream will move
southward along the coast while weakening. There is a Marginal Risk of
excessive rainfall through Sunday morning. As the moisture stream
increases, WPC has issued a High Risk of excessive rainfall over parts of
the Sierra Nevada Mountains on Sunday into Monday morning. With the High
Risk, significant, and potentially life threatening flash flooding is
expected.
On Monday, the excessive rainfall threat lessens to a Slight Risk over
parts of the Sierra Nevada Mountains with a Marginal Risk over other parts
of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and parts of the Southern California Coast
from Monday into Monday night. Heavy snow will develop over the higher
elevations of the Sierra Nevada Mountains on Monday as the front moves
pass by. Furthermore, on Monday, spotty snow will develop over parts of
the Cascades and the Northern Intermountain Region Rockies.

Sympthsical
(9,073 posts)I meant to thank you in another thread where you responded to me. They're great.
Yep, we're getting 5+ inches in North Bay starting in a couple hours. It'll be interesting. It's been a minute since we've had that much moisture all at once. And the fire areas have mudslides to worry about. Ooft.
Edit: I see that giant white mass to the west moving in, and it's like, "Oh lordy, it's comin'."

(86,569 posts)Like an arctic hurricane in the north Pacific. It's huge and will bring more winter weather in a hurry.

(86,569 posts)At least where I'm at I have all the fixins for winter, many down coats/jackets, hats, mittens, boots, I'm fully outfitted for winter. My newer car even has heated seats and steering wheel. But this could play out in a serious way even east of here when it all get rolling through the Rockies.
We've already had our first little rain squall today, been grey since late yesterday afternoon.

(113,275 posts)hundreds of cars stranded, cat 2 force winds. The northeast side of town got hammered, the foothills not so much. Two days later, in the western side of town, could not tell it had been snowing.
Stay safe. Those things are NASTY.

(86,569 posts)I was way over here but this one is already here. we had bad winds last night, came in waves but no moisture until about an hour ago. Mostly we'll have wind and cooler temps for as long as it takes to move beyond us.

Mr.Bill
(24,282 posts)There could easily be road closures with this kind of storm. Drive safely and best of luck to you.
2naSalit
(86,569 posts)I have been trapped trying to go that route in a rain event before and landslides were the thing. Of course, Grapevine gets them too. Do drive carefully.

(14,490 posts)especially considering all that land scorched by wildfires.
Just did a spot forecast check and just as an example, Stockton if forecast to get 2 to 3 inches of rain on Sunday night, with lots of showers for a full day prior to soak the ground ahead of heavy rain.
Not as severe but that trend continues all the way up into Reno.
Please California and Nevada, don't be complacent........
