Florida's top doctor refuses mask, is told to leave meeting

Florida's top health official was asked to leave a meeting after refusing to wear a mask at the office of the state senator who told him she had a serious medical condition, officials have confirmed. Florida Senate leader Wilton Simpson, a Republican, sent a memo to senators Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021 regarding the incident at the office of Democratic state Sen. Tina Polsky, asking visitors at the building to be respectful with social interactions....

“It was so shocking to me that he treated me in this manner,” Polsky said. “If he is a surgeon general for the next several years, I am really concerned about a future public health emergency and not being able to rely on him for necessary guidance and proper scientific leadership.

...In the memo sent by Simpson to senators and their staff members, he said that while there's no mask mandate in the Senate, senators can request social distancing and masking within their offices.

“It shouldn't take a cancer diagnosis for people to respect each other's level of comfort with social interactions during a pandemic,” he said. "What occurred in Senator Polsky's office was unprofessional and will not be tolerated in the Senate."

Ladapo deliberately targeted Democratic state Sen. Tina Polsky, gloating. He is a f'n monster.

betting he's mostly in it for the $,$$$,$$$. He likes the attention because it makes him more and more money off that snake-oil website where they are making a damn mint selling HCQ and horse paste.

I'll bet he's vaccinated and got his booster in the first round. I'll bet his family is vaccinated. I'll bet he makes fun of "demon sex" lady amongst trusted company all the time.

He knows better but is choosing to behave this way due to political ambition and greed.

I am sure that he is headed for a long and hard fall. I think DeSantis is setting his Surgeon General to be the fall guy when the calls to investigate DeSantis' handling of the Covid response in his state.

appointment in September as surgeon general, then updated this month...

The UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine has since removed Ladapo's name and biography from its websites. An internet archive search shows his name disappeared after the Sept. 23 news conference...

Ladapo replaces Scott Rivkees, who resigned over the summer under a joint-agreement with the University of Florida. Ladapo is under a similar agreement with the University of Florida and will also serve as a professor at its medical school, netting him a total salary of $512,000. As of 2020, his salary at UCLA was $319,168, according to a University of California database.

He is also well known for his many op-eds. Ladapo has written at least 12 columns for the Wall Street Journal since the pandemic began in early 2020, many probing the safety of Covid-19 vaccines as well as whether Covid-related restrictions like face masks and lockdowns are needed. He was also among 20 doctors who signed a citizen petition on June 1 urging the FDA not to grant full approval of any of the Covid-19 vaccines until they’ve gone through two years of testing.

U.S. Rep. Al Lawson (D-Fla.), whose 5th congressional district encompasses mainly majority Black areas between Jacksonville and Tallahassee, said he was deeply concerned with what Ladapo’s confirmation would mean for boosting vaccination rates among hesitant communities. Ladapo, who is Black, told reporters the Covid-19 vaccine wasn’t nearly as effective as everyone had hoped. This undermined several months of work by Lawson and a consortium of black church pastors who sought to close a racial disparity gap among vaccinated Floridians.
sorry I didn't catch it's from Politico; yep, I know; Drudge with lipstick.

Here's a similar article by CBS News raising the same issues.

He's not the first doctor to serve political ends. He doesn't need the money. He just goes for the power promised him.

a hostile political agent now in charge of Florida's captive public health system.

From Senator Polsky's account according to Florida Politics:

Polsky said there was a brief back-and-forth, and then she finally asked whether there was a reason he couldn’t wear a mask. “He just smiles and doesn’t answer. He’s very smug. And I told him several times,`I have this very serious medical condition.’ And he said, ‘That’s OK,’ like it basically has nothing to do with what we are talking about.”

Eventually, Polsky said, she asked Ladapo to leave her office, which he agreed to do. But, the Senator said, before going Ladapo remarked, “Sometimes I try to reason with unreasonable people for fun.”

DeSantis nominated him, but he hasn't landed the official gig yet.

Hope they vote no!

They won't, but it would be appropriate.
