General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI got my flu shot yesterday and slept until 3 pm today
my arm/shoulder is sore as hell.
I think my reaction(s) to immunizations get worse with age.
Also, I got a text from the VA to schedule my COVID booster shot.
The second shot gave me problems.
I'm wondering how the booster went for DUers, because right now I'm feeling apprehensive.

(6,110 posts)nothing burger as expected. I think it is the shot giver, not the flu shot.
If the needle hits a nerve or blood vessel, more likely to get sore.
Do not worry too much about the 3rd covid booster shot.
Covid vaccines are 99.993% safe from being fatal according to VAERS data.
My spouse has stage-4 cancer in 4th year since diagnosis, had the booster, and no adverse side effects.

(24,885 posts)One on the right shoulder one on the left side. The first two shots didn't really bother me too much other than being a little sleepy and feeling kind of crummy for a day.
Third shot in combination with flu felt like I got to hit by a Mac truck for about 9 hours. My joints actually hurt my hands. No fever just an incredible body pain everywhere.
And then like magic it was over. And worth it, don't worry about it

(15,807 posts)Arm is only sore when I touch it. No other side effects. Dh got it at the same time and his arm is a bit more sore than mine.
Got the flu shot two weeks ago and it was probably a bit more painful in terms of my arm.

(5,007 posts)He had fever, body aches, headache, dizziness and huge swollen lymph node (painful to lower his arm) after his booster shot. He was okay after a couple of days. I had body aches after my Pfizer booster. It lasted about a day. It was not bad enough for me to take any meds. My mom, father-in law and mother-in-law are in their early to late 70s and did not have any side effects.

(9,073 posts)He's in health care, so they were all given boosters.
He didn't have any reaction to the first two shots. When he got the booster a few weeks ago, he was done for about two days. His arm was really sore for about a day and a half. The day after the shot, I could tell he had zero energy, so I sent him to bed. He was conked out by 4PM and slept through the night.
For me, immunizations usually mean early bedtime that day. Which is fine. It's usually a solid sleep I generally desperately need.

(65,013 posts)Not even a sore arm at the injection.
I did have a 14 hour fever & myalgia session with my 2nd Moderna, so I'm expecting something with the booster. But, it's only a half dose, so we'll see.

(18,402 posts)Id asked the pharmacist if I might have a similar reaction as I did to the second shot (chills, fever, aches for about 24 hours). He said in general it might be less, since its been a longer interval between the shots. Said it might be somewhere between the first and second.
And thats pretty much what happened. Felt just fine from the time of the shot (11am) until around 9:30 that evening, when I developed a dense sort of headache. Went to bed after a while and woke up next day with still with headachy and fatigued feeling. It started to go away in the early afternoon, and I thought, yay, that wasnt so bad. But not quite: by mid afternoon I got the mild chills and had a low-grade fever. But it went away in just an hour and a half! I felt fine after that. So not bad, all in all.
No sore arm (I iced it for 20 minutes when I got home, and moved it a lot). I did have soreness from the flu shot.
My spouse got the booster a few days later and didnt have any real reaction at all. Thats about par for the course for us two.

(22,252 posts)I was very tired for several days afterward but if that was due to the shot, it wasn't enough to cause me any trouble.
I am going to participate in a study for a new vaccine - RSV. It is a stage III clinical trial. If I am accepted after my interview with the MD, I can't take my flu shot for 14 more days. Believe me I will be hitting the Walgreens on the 15th day.
Hopefully I won't run into any flu. I wear mask whenever I leave the house and am highly resistant to flu anyway. I think I have only had flu 4 times (that I can remember).

(50,269 posts)Last year I got injected into the wrong place in the arm and was in agony for 3 months. We just got our notices for the Covid booster, too. I'll probably make an appointment this week sometime, but I can't help my dread of vaccines arising again from last year's flu shot experience.

(3,647 posts)A sore left arm for a few days, same as the 2 previous Pfizer vaccines. Same also as the flu vaccine about a month ago.

(145,176 posts)This was not the booster shot but the full dose because my doctors were worried about me being immunocompromised due to a low antibody test result. I felt like crap the next day but was fine the day after.
A week later, my internist gave me the high dose of the flu vaccine even though I will not turn 65 for a couple of months. I had no reaction.
My youngest child had a sever reaction with her second moderna shot and they had us alternate tylenol and NSIDs This worked.

(6,584 posts)She told me it was the stronger dose for Seniors (I'm 69), so I was prepared for some kind of reaction but there was none - except for the tiny red dot from the needle.
My second Moderna shot was in March, so I'll call the local Clinic tomorrow to make an appointment for the booster. From what I understand it doesn't matter if it's Moderna or not. I just want the booster - this damned virus is NOT done with us yet.

(14,275 posts)I had zero reaction to the flu shot. I had two days of light fatigue from my Covid-19 booster. It was light years better than my reaction to the second shot.
