There are a lot of problems with collective guilt, but few with collective responsibilty. It was a fight, but Germans came around to dealing with Hitler.
But not here. During Reconstruction we said that they are misguided but still Americans, and that was bullshit. Still is.
Over 150 years late, but it's about time we just said "STOP". Cut the bullshit and get to work.

(19,200 posts)They're positioned in high places in the federal government, and they're positioned throughout state and local governments. The military and police are saturated with them, and they have abundant monetary support from the country's billionaires.
I'm starting to think the coup is over, and all that remains is the messy mopping up.
I hope to every deity ever imagined that I'm wrong, but the more I see and hear, the more I worry that I'm not.

(7,403 posts)Even in very liberal locations like Austin the police are extremists. It gets down to using the wrong model for police recruitment so it will take decades to fix. Is also shows why there is a need for critical race theory. It all goes hand in hand. We thought the 1960's was the beginning of the end of racism in America. It wasn't even the end of the beginning.

(4,079 posts)This OP makes me so sad. I was born in Austin, and a bunch of my very liberal family live there. I always think of it as a safe haven for liberals in Texas, but this post exposes the creepy underbelly.
I guess no place is safe from Nazi cowards.

This glorification of the "first responders" needs to stop right fucking now! The news media likes to throw in one feel good story each day about a wonderful thing a police officer did that day. You want fair and balanced? How about showing some of this crap on the local news?
My parents' generation fought a war to end this and here we are now in America.
