A Texas man has been booked on suspicion of murder in the shooting death of a 31-year-old man who was sitting alone, unarmed, in a car outside his home.
The arrest came 11 days after the deadly shooting of Adil Dghoughi, prompting family and friends to publicly decry the lack of justice and information released on the case.
Terry Duane Turner, 65, is suspected of confronting Dghoughi with a handgun early on Oct. 11, then fatally shooting him through the driver's-side window. Turner found a car on his driveway, allegedly walked out with a handgun, and chased after Dghoughi as the 31-year-old rapidly backed out of the driveway.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by BuzzFeed News, Turner stood on the driver's side of the car, tapped the window twice, and fired once into the car, striking Dhoughi in the head.
"I just killed a guy," Turner told a 911 dispatcher after the shooting. "He started racing away and I ran after him. He pointed a gun at me and I shot."
Despite Turner's statement, however, police said they found no weapons inside the vehicle.

Texas man charged with murder after shooting someone in a car outside his home. He told police it was self-defense
A Texas man is facing a first-degree murder charge related to the fatal shooting of a man sitting in a parked car outside his home earlier this month in a case the victim's family believes could test the limits of the state's so-called stand your ground law.
Terry Duane Turner, 65, told police he woke up to use the bathroom and "discovered an unknown vehicle with its headlights off, to be parked inside of the driveway next to his pickup truck," according to an arrest affidavit obtained by CNN.
Turner said he returned to his bedroom to get his handgun and ran outside to find the headlights of the vehicle turned on, according to the affidavit. Turner told police that the car rapidly backed out of his driveway, he chased after it, and "struck the front driver's side door window twice with his handgun" and fired the gun, striking the driver, the affidavit said.
The victim was identified as Adil Dghoughi, 31, according to police.
Dghoughi's girlfriend, Sarah Todd, told CNN the couple was visiting her cousin in San Antonio prior to the shooting and Dghoughi left to drive back to her home in Maxwell. Todd believes Dghoughi got lost in Martindale and pulled over to look up directions when he was killed.
According to court documents, Turner told a 911 operator after the shooting that "I just killed a guy," adding that Dghoughi "started racing away and I ran after him. He pointed a gun at me, and I shot."
Investigators didn't find a gun in Dghoughi's possession, according to the affidavit.

The Caldwell County Sheriff's Office defended its work in a statement Friday, saying, "Detectives have worked tirelessly on this case since the incident occurred on October 11th, 2021. Detectives have conducted multiple interviews and executed multiple search warrants in the course of this investigation."
Othmane Dghoughi, Adil Dghoughi's brother, told CNN he's "happy" about the arrest but not "100%" relieved. "We still need to see the evidence that will be presented to the Grand Jury," he said.
Todd, Dghoughi's girlfriend, echoed Othmane Dghoughi's sentiment, saying she's "glad" Turner has finally been arrested, but knows "this is only the beginning."
"We're going to continue to fight until there is justice for Adil," Todd said.

(2,357 posts)you don't go outside. You stay in you walls and call the police.
If you are a stupid person, you tell the cops you shot someone while they were trying to get away from you, which totally destroys your "self-defense" claim.

(3,705 posts)...well, perhaps that is a stretch.
However, for a person with a gun, the trigger is a powerful motivator.
An unused gun is a useless gun; there is powerful motivation to fulfill the sole purpose of having a gun in hand.
OR? Perhaps guns make people stupid. The lucky majority reach the natural end of their lives before the gun's nature wins.

I've never seen a strange car in my driveway in all of my life. I have on occasion seen cars block my driveway, but in it? No.

(33,337 posts)If you were in that car looking at Google Maps at 3:30 am, and someone tapped on your window with a gun, would you GTFO as fast as you could?

(32,701 posts)It's rare but it happens, usually for a very brief period of time due to someone being confused about an address.
Unless I'm about to pull in or out of my garage I don't worry about it.

(146,295 posts)and a dead-end residential cul-de-sac. Every day, people turn onto my dead-end street and stop. Dozens of them. They hang around there for a little while, and then pull into one of the driveways, turn around and leave, getting back on that busy arterial street. What are they doing?
My balcony/deck looks out on that dead-end street. What most of those drivers are doing is looking at their cell phones. If you get caught in Minnesota using a cell phone while driving, there's a substantial fine. So, the phone rings and they turn right onto that dead-end cul-de-sac to answer their phone.
Or, they missed a turn from their map software and turned into my street to reorient themselves.
There are many reasons for someone to stop on your street, or even to pull into your driveway to turn around. They're not suspicious characters. They're probably looking at their cell phone so they don't have to look at it while driving. Or their car is making a suspicious noise. Or they're freaking lost and trying to figure out where to go next.
Don't shoot them, for pity's sake!

(15,407 posts)It wasn't being used to make a quick U-turn like you've seen in your driveway. There's never a reason to park in someone's driveway, but obviously the person should have called the police.

(33,337 posts)driver was still in the vehicle, vehicle was still on, idling. parking is when you've left the vehicle. subtle distinction, I know.
neither action warrants summary execution.

(8,052 posts)why this person deserves to be summarily executed. Hope this guy gets to spend his golden years in a nice secure facility.

(33,337 posts)he might not even get convicted if they try him on Murder 2 instead of Man 1.
he's 65 now; i bet his case isn't over for 3 years.
