The rotten core of the Republican Party

..............

Resistance to taxation is the rotten core of the modern Republican Party. Republicans in recent decades have sharply reduced the federal income tax rates imposed on wealthy people and big companies, but their opposition to taxation goes beyond that. They are aiding and abetting tax evasion.

Republicans have hacked away at funding for the Internal Revenue Service over the past decade, enfeebling the agency. When the rich and powerful open loopholes in the tax code, Republicans reliably fight to keep the loopholes open. Indeed, they valorize Americans who find ways to pay less, a normalization of antisocial behavior that may be even more damaging than the efforts at bureaucratic sabotage.

............

Political philosophers have long fretted that democracy allows the poor to plunder the rich. The opposite has proved more nearly true. Progressive taxation is not a threat to the wealthy. It is a small price to pay for prosperity.

Cutting taxes to starve social programs is, by itself, a threat to the sustainability of the American experiment in multicultural democracy. In enabling resistance to lawful taxation, Republicans are engaged in an even more direct assault.

But if any of their favorite taken-for-granted socialist programs (Social Security, Medicare, Plan D, Medicaid, SNAP, no-toll Interstate Highway, rural electrification, etc.) was suddenly taken away, they would scream bloody murder but still bring themselves vote Republican. Cause-and-effect and voting along the lines of overall best interest do not appear to be in their skill set!

Tax cuts & deregulation are their only policies. Everything else is just red meat for the base.

They've put $10,000 bounties on women in Texas, they've legalized the hunting of humans. The GOP wants to overthrow the entire government, not just the IRS. By purposely spreading Covid, the GOP wants 100s of thousands of Americans to die. The GOP supports the environmental destruction of the entire planet.

"resistance to taxation", LOL!

aristocratically controlled feudalistic society is at the core of Republican rot. Hereditary rule by the "wealthy betters" and complete control over and immunity against the lower class is what they think should be the power and societal structure. A necessary very limited middle class of professionals providing services to help them retain the fundamental class divisions is acceptable as long as they "know their place." The poor and minorities are lessor beings who don't deserve any privileges and on whose backs the wealthy deserve to stand (because, you know, they earned their status because they are better by virtue of birth and/or white criminal acquisition of wealth).

The anti-tax, anti-woman, racist, white supremacy attitude and manipulation of other whites not in power which has been used to achieve this power all stems from that core fundamental (and fundamentally un-American by definition) belief. "We are better than everyone else, you are NOT equal to us, you deserve your lot in life and we don't even notice your ssuffering because you are sub-human." The line dividing Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette from Trump, Melanin, and the rest of the Republican leadership is one of technology and fashion not ideology.
