Ive had the two Pfizer shots. Wondering if I should get Moderna as the booster.
Im leaning toward staying with Pfizer.
Just curious if anyone has done the mix and match thing?

(10,098 posts)I just posted on another thread, I had the J & J in March, just got Pfizer booster late yesterday afternoon, but I also got my flu shot at the same time. I made it through work, but am starting to fade now. Good luck to you!
Peace

(23,314 posts)and I'm leaning toward getting the Pfizer for my booster. I just emailed my Dr to get her opinion.

(51,308 posts)I had a bad reaction on the second dose, but apparently thats not unusual if youve had the virus. Ill just be ready to sleep in for a day or two.
Actually not old enough as yet, but I figure that living with a 68 year old with underlying conditions should qualify me.

(2,096 posts)And I had to purposely seek it out, because the pharmacy where I got both of my initial shots which previously only offered Moderna, is now only offering Pfizer.
Got my booster yesterday, my arm is a little sore (barely) and I'm slightly more tired than usual. Which is exactly how I did with the first two. I know they say you can mix and match, but I felt uncomfortable doing that. Although, if I had gotten the J&J, I would probably get one of the others for a booster, just because the efficacy is better.

(51,308 posts)At least I know how I react to Pfizer.

(7,413 posts)I originally got the Pfizer shot, but some people I know opted to get bathed in the blood of Christ instead of going with the mRNA or viral vector vaccines. They seemed to make out pretty well. So now I'm wondering if I shouldn't boost with the Christ blood as a kind of hedge. They say mixing and matching the mRNA boosters with the J&J vaccine has demonstrable benefits, perhaps there is an upside to some of these other combinations as well?

(65,031 posts)They're going over data, but for now, they're not recommending mixing.
Not that there appears to be a likely contraindication, but until there's good data, a solid and consensus conclusion, I'm not doing it. I could have gotten a Pfizer booster a month ago, but I waited until the CDC green lighted the Moderna half dose booster.
I'll find a Moderna site this week.

(65,031 posts)So I'm good to go, plus I substitute teach in retirement so that is an exposure factor even if I wasn't yet 65.
Our town is 6,000 people so we have a CVS and a tiny indie pharmacy. CVS only has Pfizer & the tiny one doesn't do them.
Got to find some place out of town, but we live 18 miles north of a town of 70k and 20 miles south of a city of 160,000. So, somebody within a half hour drive will have it.

(10,052 posts)Many many people in Canada mixed and matched their 2nd shot of the vaccine. We don't have approval yet for the booster unless you got AstraZeneca in one or more shots.

(65,031 posts)Not sure how I missed that.
I'm going Moderna anyway, but that decision went past my radar.

(11,631 posts)She had Pfizer and I had Moderna and we are sticking with the same. I did some reading today and from the small amount of data thats available it appears that it is likely very beneficial in terms of antibodies to get one of the mRNA boosters if you had J&J. Otherwise the difference is fairly inconsequential. Sorry no time to dig up those links but if you google something like "should I mix and match vaccines" you'll get some relevant articles which reference recent studies.

(51,308 posts)I got the two Pfizer jabs, and at least I know how they affect me.
Sadly, Ive lost a lot of confidence in the CDC, so I tend to wait and see every time they throw something new out there.
