Manchin raises concern over billionaire tax

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) on Wednesday said he doesn’t like the idea of targeting only the 700 wealthiest Americans to pay for a big chunk of the Democrats' spending package, raising doubts over a newly proposed tax on billionaires.

“I don’t like it. I don’t like the connotation that we’re targeting different people,” Manchin told reporters when asked about the new tax proposal sponsored by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) that would hit billionaires and people who earned $100 million or more in three consecutive years.

Manchin argued that the ultra-wealthy “bring a lot of jobs, invest a lot of money and give a lot to philanthropic pursuits.”

“I believe everyone’s going to pay. I believe that we will end up where everyone must participate,” he said.

I'm perfectly willing to support a tax on all Americans' income past their first $100 million in a year.

apparently there's a legit argument it's not constitutional (no idea why but that's what even some Dems say), and I don't want to have to depend on 6 Republican justices to uphold it.

Just raise the rates and make Sinema vote against it. If she does and it fails look for plan B.

When people and corporations like zuckerberg and Amazon pay less in taxes than any of my kids earn in a year, and teachers have to start Go Fund Me drives to buy supplies for their classrooms, who pays what is a disaster.

Maybe that misguided person would go along better if the tax was said to be on corporations. Like depersonalize big business. I doubt it, but just a thought.

Someone is puppeting him. His reactionary comments don't seem authentic. I sense an outside hand. Someday we'll find out who caught him doing something unflattering.

Manchin and Sinema are trying to
sabotage the bill. He agrees with one
thing she disagrees with it and vice-versa at the very last minute.

They intend to water down the bill to
nothing. Good luck with getting the Progressives to vote for it.

Ok all millionaires have to file deeper disclosures and we can have a nice graduated progressive tax. Only defer capital gains for those with incomes below 250K, 500K for two earners. Joe Manchin should pay his share, I agree.
