NYT Politics @nytpolitics 30mSenate Democrats plan to extract hundreds of billions of dollars from the wealth of billionaires hit a major snag on Wednesday when Senator Joe Manchin III, Democrat of West Virginia, denounced it as divisive.
Mr. Manchin, speaking with reporters, said, I dont like the connotation that were targeting different people. People, he added, that contributed to society and create a lot of jobs and invest a lot of money and give a lot to philanthropic pursuits.
Its time that we all pull together and row together, he said.

...Manchin wants us to all row together, so he can save money on his yacht fuel.

(82,849 posts)And quite conspicuously, the wealthy have been loafing along, content to let others fund the society that has paid off fabulously for them. Do the wealthy work 5 million times as hard or as much as a single mother working three jobs? If not, then part of their wealth is skimmed from the sweat of her brow. It's time they started paying for some of the privileges they've accorded themselves, and pay that in a way that benefits the country and not just politicians on yachts who are sucking up bribes in the form of campaign contributions.

(107,943 posts)No Joe. They don't invest to help society. They invest to make money.
Consumers do more to create jobs. If there's no market for a product then there are fewer jobs and the billionaires don't make shit.
Hope that helps.

(1,188 posts)Like how billionaires pulled together to fuck us? Thats the divisive part: billionaires fucking us. So yeah! We need to pull together ourselves to fuck them back before they fuck us anymore. That is neither divisive nor fucked up. That is the game billionaires created. So now the time has come for us to fight fuck with fuck, because if we dont fuck them while we have the fucking chance to fuck them then we are completely and irretrievably fucked. So stop with this fucking divisive nonsense Manchin and do your fucking job.

(14,642 posts)I agree, Senator Manchin. They haven't been pulling or rowing. Time to make them start!
This man is just so wrong-headed. We already know the Republicans are evil. But he and his partner-in-obstruction just make me lose hope. SMDH
That means you too Manchin. There's not one thing he's conceding too and saying ok I don't want this but for the team I'll give them this one thing.
It's all my way or the highway.
