"Manchin is a walking conflict of interest," said Craig Holman, a lobbyist for the liberal watchdog group Public Citizen. "And what makes it all the more troubling is that he's the 50th Democratic senator, which gives him enormous sway over climate change policy."
I think its time Manchin got a little heat and was glad to see this on CNN.

(26,729 posts)People with a conflict of interest dont quit their jobs
they recuse themselves from the decision.
Is that what Public Citizen wants?
The people who voted for him knew where he stood on coal. They didnt vote for him despite that
they voted for him because of it.

(15,220 posts)I think a little heat for ole Manch is long overdue.
Maybe theres some more dirt that can be dug up on his sorry ass.

(15,220 posts)I dont care. Hes had literally no bad press and its time he got some. Maybe theres a sexual harassment claim in there somewhere.
I despise the jerk and if I enjoy a little bit of bad press about him, youll have to allow me that.
Why constantly defend and deflect? This guy is an absolute jerk.

(15,220 posts)With him we are totally screwed any way. It would make no difference.
I hope there is more bad press to follow for him because I sincerely believe theres a lot there between him and his kids.

(26,729 posts)If a Supreme Court justice has a conflict of interest on a given topic, they don't participate in deliberations and they don't vote. The remaining eight justices proceed without them (including the possibility that they will deadlock 4-4).
What you want is a system where a conflicted politician must vote against that conflicted interest. Such a standard does not exist.

(15,774 posts)Supreme Court example reminded me of how it works. Thank you for giving me that reminder.
Reminding WV voters that Manchin is a pro-coal, pro-gas. Anti environmental lobby senator is not putting "heat" to him. It's about as good of press as he can ask for. Some of you guys need to get out of your bubble and realize not everyone thinks like you.
There is literally nothing democrats can do to pressure Manchin. Nothing. And if they could it would just be cutting off their nose to spite their face.

(15,220 posts)I get reminded of that constantly on DU.
Hes too big of an asshole not to have SOME skeletons in his closet and someone needs to find them and use them.
