I heard on CNN we lost Virginia

Then they said even the votes on the BBB won't save us. I am even more depressed. What will this mean is our country has already been lost. We need bigger hitters of Obama and Joe as well as Kamala to go back because if we lose this, we will lose Joe Manchin. This is why I think he will not give Joe a win. All the work we did to get the election win for us,I hate to see it be all for nothing. I am heart sick. It sounds like our side is losing every end. From the rising of the big lie shown in video,Republicans winning when they lost in reality, how people are disrespecting the subpoenas congress send out,the embolden of white supremacy and now it looking like the Justice is not arresting these Jan6 folks, or keeping them in jail. It is like a hopeless death we are in. Biden poll numbers are bad. We can't trust the military will not take Trump side when he steals the next election. Nothing is done on the voting rights bill.I feel the whole drama with Gov Cuomo is a hit job because he is a big threat to the right. Seems the Democrats eats their own with all this back and fourth of trying to hold itself together, and noone can be on the same page.

Seems we are loosing steam.I am sorry to be so bleak, but I feel we have already lost our democracy. My question is this? If the Republicans were in the majority;what do you think they will do different. My opinion is they would have already come together and got rid of the filibuster and all cabinets would have been filled. I have another question about John King, who is a independent. Does his vote count with the Dems, or the Republicans? I am lost on that because if he is not counted with the Republican party, then where is his votes. Sorry to be downer, but this day as all days are as depressing as when Trump was in office. Which reminds me on one more thing. Why can't we use people like Kurt something and Steve S who are now Dems to work the computers online to spread the word that we have to win Virginia, because we will not get another election when they take over. The next election will not be a fair one, but given the Trump, who will never leave office and we will be stuck with them and that includes the whole family and we will be like Russia and Japan and all the authoritarian nations. We are on in trouble and I do not see what our side is doing. We need some out spoken people like they have. It looks like their lies will win and we will be left wondering what happened.Sad day for me.

I would hope most here know how my post are by now. I am scared crazy. I have not heard any good news for us in months. Every sense Biden numbers dropped, there has been nothing but bashing him on the lying Fox News and in the Senate and Congress. I just needed someone to talk me off the cliff. It is no different than how I was feeling when we turned out last year to bring it home for our party. I still want the question asked about Steve King who is an independent. I think the moderates are getting to Joe and Senna because they showed Mitt bringing her cookies and that is all she hangs out with. I anxiety and anything shakes me up like our Democracy. I would discount absolute predictions. The WAPO gives the tiniest edges to McAuliffe, btw.

This will be a ground game; elections are always a ground game. What we know at this point is that early voting (reportedly 3x the number when Northam ran) gives Dems the advantage, as of yesterday 55% to 30%. So, clearly VA's Dem activists have been hard at work. Tomorrow is the last day of early voting. Then it all rides on Tuesday's turnout. Can Republicans make up the spread from what appears to be a significant, early voting deficit? Can Dems get the rest of their coalition out to the polls to counteract any MAGA surge?

We. Don't. Know.

What we do know is VA Dems have been working furiously, that Youngkin dumped $3.5 million into the campaign this past week and MAGA supporters have been wailing about a stolen election--Dems have been committing election fraud, doncha know.

All of which indicates that no one knows what the final outcome will be. Including CNN.

86. You must differentiate between English and Republicanese
Tue Nov 2, 2021, 01:39 PM
Nov 2021

In Republicanese, "loosing" is correct:

EXCERPTS FROM THE OFFICIAL DICTIONARY OF REPUBLICANESE

In Republicanese, many words that sound alike may be spelled differently at random. A few prominent examples:

In Republicanese, the following words may be spelled at random using any of the three ways given:

A.) Two, Too, To
B.) Their, They're, There
c.) Your, Yore, You're

The Republicanese version of Robin Hood therefore starts with "In days of you're...."

The only rule is that the correct use of them as in English is never permitted twice in a row.

Words with single letters that change meaning when that letter is doubled must never be used in correct English context. The classic example is “lose” vs. “loose.” In Republicanese, if you do not win an election, then you “loose” that election. Conversely, if your (Republicanese: you’re) belt is too tight, you need it more “lose” in order to be comfortable. Another example would be the Republicanese, “I met Donald Trump, and he was rudder than I imagined,” vs. “I grabbed the ruder and was able to steer the boat to shore.”

In English, the contraction for "it is" is written "it's." To show possession referring to something previously mentioned, one writes "its." In Republicanese, it is the other way around. Examples:
English: “It's impractical for a building to have its solar panels in the basement.”
Republicanese: “Its impractical for a building to have it's solar panels in the basement.”

In Republicanese, as opposed to English, an apostrophe is used to form a plural. But it must be done at random, never systematically. For example, Bill and Hillary are "the Clinton's," but Bill, Chelsea and Hillary are "the Clintons." The other way around is also correct. In Republicanese, either form is correct as long as it is not spelled the same way twice in a row.

Tue Nov 2, 2021, 01:59 PM

If they come back with "I speak American!" I just ask which one? Navajo? Lakota? Hopi? Seminole? Cree? Cherokee?

The usual Republican reply is: "those are Indian languages!" to which I reply, "no, those are American languages. Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati--THOSE are Indian languages. They come from, and are spoken in--India (duh). English and Spanish are European languages, since England and Spain are part of Europe. Not even Fox 'News' has come up with a map of the world that places England and Spain as part of North America."

The usual Republican reply to that is their universal, "whatever." After ten years, they still don't know on which continent Benghazi is to be found, so it shouldn't come as any surprise that Republicans don't know where England and Spain are, either.

I don't normally watch CNN .. just a few specific hosts now and then, like Jim Acosta; Brianna Keilar & John Berman; Don Lemon (sometimes); Chris Cuomo (rarely these days) I used to watch Jake Tapper, but I cannot stomach him now. However, maybe I should take some time to see what's up with CNN before I fall back into the fearful rabbit hole.

The polls in their 2017 elections underestimated Dem support. There could also be an overcorrection by pollsters who are now overestimating Trump support (because they underestimated in many states in 2016 and 2020).

What I go by are the trendlines: Dems have won VA statewide 13 straight races, Hillary won in 2016 by 6 points, Northam in 2017 by 9 points, Biden by 10 points in 2020.

...I agree we fight sometimes with one arm tied behind our backs...Dems by nature are open people, we speak the truth and we're inclusive...unlike the pukes, we actually WANT to help people...

...pukes are deceptive liars that do harm to people that are not like themselves...they may attack us for not succeeding at things, things pukes would never do or would try to destroy...going toe to toe with pukes is sometimes difficult without becoming like a puke...

...but Dems trying to do 'good' will always triumph because doing 'good' helps and builds people's lives...the alternative is puke endorsed destruction and mayhem which harms people...harm that people will ultimately reject...

You heard on CNN that we lost an election that won't take place until next Tuesday, and then you write in Republicanese that we are losing** steam. And who, exactly, is "on in trouble?" Even "given the Trump, who will never leave office," indicates a certain disconnect with linear chronology, seeing that he did indeed leave office last January 20th.

**English words with doubled vowels lose the second vowel in Republicanese, whereas some English words with single vowels get that vowel doubled in Republicanese. "Lose" and "Loose" are classic examples.

Among all the rest, "sorry to be downer" also speaks a few minor volumes. Russians these days are surely hit over the head by their trainers about posting on US sites to cause disruption. "Learn how to use articles!! Know when to use 'the' and 'a' or 'an.' If you don't, you will be identified." Russian doesn't have these parts of speech, and they therefore have considerable difficulty guessing when to use them and when not to. Well, you missed with "downer." We English-speakers say, "sorry to be a downer." By the way, that is "where ARE his votes, not "where is his votes," and if you are referring to a CNN commentator, his one vote counts no more than mine does. One is all anyone is supposed to get.

In case you are really heartsick, check out your словарь. Это не трудно!! Одно слово, понятно? "Heart sick?" никогда!!

Now there would have remained the possibility that we are dealing with a sincere foreigner here, since not everyone has English as a native language. However: "we will be like Russia and Japan and all the authoritarian nations." Seriously?? You're putting Japan on equal footing with Russia? Maybe a Russian who has never been to Japan (or who thinks no American ever has) might swallow that one, but plenty of us have to Russia, Japan, or both. Include me in the "both" category. The very statement is typical of professional propagandists: if you want to cement a false premise into a discussion, build upon it as quickly as you can to gain acceptance. Fox "news" has been borrowing the technique for years. If you ask in public, "What are we going to do about the war on Christmas?" you are asking your audience to accept that there IS such a war going on. Never heard of it? "Many people are saying....." (don't you know?).

If there is anyone on DU who really thinks that Russia and Japan are equally authoritarian nations, I have some cheap oceanfront acreage in Wyoming to offer you. Cheap! Почти безплатно!!

I declare it a plant, and not home-grown, either. More like something from one of the directorates whose task it is to try this kind of stunt. Maybe Unit 74455 or Unit 26165. They certainly have been at it long enough.

100% "My-native-language-is-Russian" Russian grammar showing through, and refuses to be denied, like weeds pushing through cracks in the asphalt.

Units 26165 and 74455 of the ГРУ (GRU) must be having a little trouble recruiting good English language teachers if work this obvious is being offered while trolling Democratic sites in the USA. I think Savushkina Street 55 (their so-called "internet Research Agency" in St. Petersburg) is better at this, but maybe they're having a hard time finding good help, too? After all, what good is "owning the libs" if your native language doesn't even have a "the?"

You can't just say "owning libs." It sounds too much like "Moose and Squirrel," although by now, our Russian trolls, if they are younger than 60, will be scrambling to find out what "moose and squirrel" refers to! Ищите, друзья мои! Ищите!! Где лось и белка? ("Search, my friends! Search!! Where are moose and squirrel?&quot Fearless Leader is counting on you!

The media is in its usual pre-election, "let's make news" frenzy. Apparently they can't be bothered to cover the civil cases in court which involve Trump and either groping or rape, so instead they're turning poor Joe into the person who brought down the country and Terry McAuliffe as the presumed victim.

It wouldn’t be all that surprising though, considering some of the other shit CNN’s ownership has pulled.

"A friend of my friend's cousin knows a guy who is dating this woman who has a brother in Sheboygan who spoke to his pastor who said that...."

At this point, all the corporate news media in this country is adept at doing is repeating vacuous fifth-hand rumors and tawdry beauty parlor gossip. They are never to be taken seriously.

Claiming elections are over before they start is an attempt to suppress the turnout. Democrats need high turnout to win. When we stay home we lose. I wrote about it here on DU back in 2014:

Unfortunately, mainstream news mixes commentary and news freely and few people can determine the difference.
