I voted for a party that, I thought, would give me a large pizza with mushrooms. Instead, they are giving me a medium cheese pizza. Thats disappointing. Meanwhile, the other party wants to feed me arsenic and nails.

(146,288 posts)OTOH, I love anchovies on my pizza...
I_UndergroundPanther
(12,463 posts)My mom liked anchovies on pizza.
The rest of my family and I hated anchovies.
Mom would say I'll only get them on half, but the anchovy taste migrated through and ruined the whole pizza.
And if we had other no anchovy tainted pizzas traveling in the same warming bag they too had traces of anchovy taste. It wasn't just me,my sisters could taste it too.
So we made the orders like a half hour apart so there would be no anchovy contamination.
That way mom got her anchovies and we didnt have to taste them.

(45,435 posts)especially in places that have Italian grocery stores and good independent pizzerias. The chains probably screwed it up to cause a bad reputation. My family likes anchovies and use it in pasta sauces.

(146,288 posts)here in Maple Grove, MN. Neopolitan-style pizzas. My wife and I order two pizzas. Her choice varies, but I always order the Putanesca pizza. Sauteed onions and anchovies are the stars on it. My wife says, "Yuck!" I say, "Mmmmm!"

(13,493 posts)I will only order if we get miso soup instead. It can have mushrooms in it. But no gluten.
But I don't like soy, so no miso, or tofu.
The seaweed is not my thing.
huh? Edamame on the side?
No.
That's how we end up with Mushrooms and water.

(28,817 posts)How can we get you all that? I guess youll have to negotiate. In the end you got the mushrooms and water. Next year well work on the getting you a bowl for the soup through an infrastructure rebuild.

Biden's success as president is the only hope we have for a better tomorrow.

(13,498 posts)If he doesnt succeed I fear next years elections. Sorry Democrats, but you need to fall in line and get these packages passed or we are looking at a take over by Republicans after next falls elections. It may already be to late.

(5,166 posts)Some - too many- held out for the ideal.
We all know how that turned out....

(9,986 posts)Heres my reasoning. Holding out for the perfect may mean sacrificing even the good. And with the 2022 election a year away, Biden and Democrats need to show that they can govern. We need points on the scoreboard and so far we have finger pointing (of which Ive done my fair share!) and resistance to getting this bill done.
Democrats run the risk of being seen as hopelessly deadlocked and unwilling to compromise. The point now is to pass what we can and then focus on getting more senators elected in 2022 to make Sinema and Manchin irrelevant. That would significantly help the progressive agenda, but that wont happen if they continue to bicker for months on end. Meanwhile, Bidens nominees are not getting Senate confirmation because Republicans are forcing lengthy floor debates. Its time to move on with this bill, work like hell to hold both houses of Congress and increase the number of senators, and then tackle additional progressive issues.
I think the reality is that Manchin and Sinema hold all the cards. Neither seems to care about re-election. Manchin barely won last time and his stance now isnt winning him much support in WV. I believe he will not run again in 2024. Sinema probably knows that she will be primaried and will go to work for some think tank after 2024. Progressives can try to hold out to get more of what they want, but they know (or should know) that they risk losing both the House and Senate in 2022 because Democrats will be seen as ineffective, and their progressive dreams will be dashed entirely.

(4,003 posts)Given the intransigence of Manchin and Sinema, we have to just get what we can and hope for more favorable circumstances after the next election.
I'm not optimistic about that election, but that's where my energy and efforts will go.
> Neither seems to care about re-election.
I think so.
Manchin is an old man and a multi-millionaire. He's done.
Sinema is a narcissist, an opportunist, and some kind of psycho. She just doesn't care. She's made enough friends in bad places that she thinks she'll be okay no matter what may come.

(47,422 posts)and now I have Social Security and Medicare. It sure is a lot better than nothing and they are also better than when they first passed. I am quite sure that over time they will continue improving, provided we can keep Democrats in power.

(34,857 posts)The analogy only works if pizza is actually given. So far it's been promised but each time it's supposed to be delivered, something stops it from being delivered.
