Harris Aides See Messy Primary If Biden Steps Aside

“Vice President Kamala Harris’ former staffers and fundraisers anticipate a potentially messy primary if she goes up against fellow Cabinet member Pete Buttigieg in a race for the White House,” Insider reports.

“A free-for-all Democratic presidential primary could come as early as 2024 if President Joe Biden decides he won’t run for reelection, though he has said that he plans to. Some Democratic donors and strategists are already privately discussing what the field could look like in 2024 if Biden opts out.”

I didn't think Biden's age will allow him to run again. And quite frankly, I don't see any strong candidates out there right now. I love Harris as VP, but I don't think she'll be able garner enough support to run for President. I don't think the country would support her effort.
The good news is it's three years away. No one thought Obama was a viable candidate three years out either. Someone will fill the void.

The first 2024 primaries will likely be in December 2023 and people usually declare and start campaigning at least 3-6 months before that. The potential primary field and campaigning will begin around late summer 2023, about 22 months from now.

With Biden's age, I don't see any way that he could run again.

I agree that Harris will face stiff competition in 2024.

after Biden. Could be 2024 or 2028.

Buttigieg, Newsom, Witmer, Booker

and if the GOP cleans house, I'd think Kinzinger would be a boffo candidate for them. He is driving straight down the political middle rather strongly.

No I don't think TFG will be in the race. We have 2 years to disintegrate GQP, we'd best put our best moves on.

and since the discussion seemed to be pointed to discounting other candidates.

VP's are always saddled with being second in command. Biden was not a shoe-in in 2016 either.

...and do you think she's going to avoid any planning until Biden makes a formal decision?

When I was at the 2012 Convention, I could tell which people were already laying the groundwork for a 2016 run (visiting the NH delegation -- in my hotel -- seemed especially popular).
