Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI have to ask: is anyone else being BESIEGED with email begging
from Democrats you never heard of? And from Terry McAuliffe?
For Gods sake, I must get appeals from him, alone, about every hour or two! I gave a little here and there, earlier this month and STILL the increasingly shrill begging emails came. Altogether I think Ive donated $150, and hes STILL sending me desperation emails! On the SAME DAY!!! After I just donated a small amount.
And THEN: emails from various Dem leaders including Nancy Pelosi, screamed by that they need $375!!! Hell, I just today got one desperation appeal from Pelosi for SIX HUNDRED and 75 dollars!?!?!?!?!
What.
The.
FUCK?????
I wish I could confront some of these people and demand to know what they did with what I just gave them!
Im sorry. I just had to vent. For Petes sake, Terry McAuliffe was DNC Chair. I would hope he still has contact info for the big Democratic donors he schmoozed with back then!
Again, my apologies, but shit - it makes me want to NEVER contribute to ANYBODY ever again!!!!! Shit! You try to help some candidate you think is worthy and then they go nuts, pleading poverty and desperation and hounding you for more.
Is anybody else under siege like this?

(60,010 posts)Pre 2020 election. Emails would not stop. I tried to "unsubscribe" to no avail. finally had to mark it all as spam and that worked.
But has made me sensitive about donations now. It was too much spamming.
Getting tired of deleting 100 to 150 political emails a day to keep my mail box in readable order.

(24,737 posts)Thing is, the more you give($), the more you get (emails). Democrats and ActBlue need to figure a better way than the current method. An idea-
I spend $2500-4000/year on politics, annually; exclusively on ActBlue. I believe if I don't fund political campaigns, corporations will.
But why not instead - ActBlue - keep my money as a pool and let me think about the political allocation of my money over 12 months? Reward politicians that make consistent political points, and deduct $ from those that prove to be something other than a Democrat.
We should have a value scorecard on political races, so we bet smartly with the best opportunity of winning.

in teensy weensy print, is the Unsubscribe link. Click on that and you will be directed to the website to confirm. They will likely ask you if you just want fewer emails just say no; there is no fewer irl. They may also whine and ask you to tell them why you want off the list: by all means let them have it.
A couple of years ago I unsubscribed to (literally) about 50 entities that were badgering me daily. I did this knowing full well that as soon as I donated to anyone for any reason that it would all begin again and it has; tho lately nearly all of the begging letters end up in my spam filter.
Best of luck.

(4,913 posts)They are turning every election into a money race. At a certain point, people's minds are made up. More ads don't do any good.
I thought we were against money in politics. If it's bad for the other side, why are they doing this? Seems like a whole election-industrial complex of consultants, advisors and advertising execs are getting rich off this.
Years ago, MoveOn was pestering me mercilessly. I asked them to account for the money and they wouldn't respond. It's time for our candidates to become accountable to us. They are telling us that more money will win the election. Tell us how.
Better yet, lets brainstorm what really makes the difference, besides money. The endless money pitch has gotten out of hand. Our government must not be for sale to the highest bidders.

I've donated WAY too much to keep being told "oh, WAAAA! The Republicans wouldn't let us get this done!" And I would love to respond: The Republicans are doing pretty damn well for being the so-called "minority" party! They're certainly getting THEIR way.
Mitch McConnell wouldn't let anything stop him, even so-called "minority" status. What's wrong with YOU, Schumer? What a milquetoast. What a disappointment he is. But I never see any fight in him. I never see any shrewdness in him. I never see any devious thinking and getting around the obstruction from him. I never see ANY ruthlessness from him - and that's pretty much ALL you see from Mitch. I wish our Dems would be more ruthless and devious. Especially since it's the last thing the GOP would be expecting.
I'm TIRED of this "being nice" and "let's play by the rules" stuff. Maybe we need to BREAK a few rules to get something done.

Hard headed me: I never contribute to anyone, if I think the money may be misspent, or if the recipient earns more than me.
And that's about anyone, seeing I'm a pensioner.

(493 posts)I learned to create special filters on keywords in my email client. I'm still deluged with frantic "GIVE!!!!!!!" emails, but the vast majority of them go directly into the trash basket, unopened and unread. A few sneak thru, but my email client lets me drag and drop the escapees to the trash basket, then add that sender to the "This is junk" filter/rule.
Creating a throw-away email address on the free email systems is also a good way to handle this. Always use your throwaway email address if you do decide to contribute.
And avoid clicking on "GIVE!!!!!!" links that are contained in their emails. Sometimes those skirt the ethics if not the law, and will do things like default-check the "make it monthly" box. You'd think that's normal GOP tactics, but I've had it happen, unfortunately, with some (D) begs. My spouse always falls for this so going through her ActBlue account to delete the monthly contributions is a regular email maintenance task.
You just have to live with it. Nothing is going to change it.

And yes, I could unsubscribe, but I do choose to donate to various people at a time of my choosing, so I let it go. Honestly, it's pretty easy to hit 'select all' then unselect the couple of emails I want to read, and then delete the whole lot at once. Citizens United insured that all races will involve money - just is what it is at the moment.
It seems Actblue is happy to release your email freely if you dontate so that people entirley unrelated to your political life can send requests for donations. I like Actblue overall, but this policy leaves a bad taste.
Now I understand that, until the Supreme Court reverses the ruling that money = speech, we are sadly stuck with fundraising as the primary focus of every political candidate. As much as I wish this were not the case, it actually is in the real world, so I get it.
As others have suggested, I keep political donations specific to a particular email I can manage on that basis. It's unfortunately the best I can do until something major changes, which seems completely unlikely in the foreseeable future.
Rabrrrrrr
(58,355 posts)"deadline approaching".
And sometimes multiple emails from the same candidate (or the DNC) in the same day.
I'm also on Trump's email list, just because it's good to track one's enemies, I would say that I get at least 5 emails every day from him, his son, or someone in the RNC or some other related group begging for money to "save America".
And it does no good to unsubscribe to any of the democratic ones, because they are all sharing emails, so even if Joe Blow gets an unsubscribe from me and doesn't send an email in a day or two, on day three Joe Blow's campaign is getting a whole new set of viable emails from the higher ups, and snap, there I am, back on the idiot's email list.
It's really fucking annoying.
In fact, today (or yesterday) I got an email in the morning from a candidate that I *have* sent money to saying something like "We need to raise XXX amount by this afternoon" (for some dipshit reason) and then - swear to God - got an email from her in the afternoon saying "We sent an email this morning saying that we had to raise XXXX amount by afternoon - because of our supporters, WE MASDE THAT GOAL! But now we need another YYYY this evening!"
