(58,785 posts)without alteration. What does it mean when factionalism has become so extreme that it requries dishonesty and demonization even of kids to support?
Btw, we live in GA where almost all 17-year-olds we've ever known or just seen are "theirs." Each time I've visited the local high school on some project I've been impressed with how well mannered, well groomed, and overall good natured the kids are -- in that environment, yes, but not at all like the usual media stories of troubled teens going to hell.

(10,064 posts)It wasn't just Nazi Germany & other obviously totalitarian countries where people have been treated with horrifyingly inhumane & deadly cruelty.
Just saw a documentary that turned my stomach by describing how cettain hateful, bigoted Americans treated German American citizens during WWI. Worse even, I feel, than the shameful interment of Japanese Americans in WWII, as it was violent vigilantism. And that many Americans perpetrated or condoned lynchings.(both the old--by civilians--and new--by cop--kind) is further proof of what a group if hateful American radicals are capable of.
Once the Rs enact their plan to declare Trump & all the R candidates the winners and they take over, R rank & file will feel even more free to treat Dems that way. And I won't be surprised if interment/concentration camps for Dems are instituted by the corrupt, evil R government & upheld by Trump's RW judges.
I know I'll get blasted by some here for saying all that, but it becomes more and more apparent that it can happen here.
The only question I have is: How do we stop them?

(3,001 posts)they're doing their patriotic duty and exercising their gawd-given rights. But, when anyone else wants to protest, they're radical leftists. They're against freedom. They're against America. They're communists.

(10,277 posts)my generation protesting planet destruction and Vietnam had shown up with M-16s, the war toy of the day. White or not, us hippies would have been killed. Happened at Kent State and we were unarmed. Police sucked then pretty bad as well. And if we had pictures of Dem leaders superimposed on the American flag. Pretty sure there is a law against that.

(3,459 posts)..people all around us with the stupid group being the most dangerous, that is as written by Carlos Cipolla in his thesis, The
5 Basic Laws of Human Stupidity as depicted in video at link, select nous animation.
Cipolla states we underestimate the number of stupid people in the world. He sorts people into 4 groups: Helpless, Intelligent, Stupid, Bandits-- goes on to conclude that the most dangerous group is the stupid group bc they will do something without gains to themselves. (Reminded me of those who participated in insurrection on Jan 6, or those not supporting bills that will help them; or nonvaxers, covid19 deniers that are literally killing themselves. People whom are willing to fall on their swords for odious-traitor#45, man who doesn't give a #uck about them; republiklan party who supports policies that harm them..then we observed the insurrection on.Jan 6.. stupidity in numbers is a powerful force.. [note: I would change name of stupid people group to evil people group bc imo stupid, stupidity verbage conotates a childlike innocence, a naiive ignorance rather than blatant evilness; same with bandit group change to evil bandits.]

(56,974 posts)Republicans see the difference, too, and are proud that their 17 year old seems so much better to them. Pro-Death beats out Pro-life every time in Republicanworld. They just call their Pro-Death "Pro-Life," and think they have the better offering.
