(27,477 posts)So close that some in the media were predicting it would be days, maybe even weeks before we knew the outcome.
It was called in under an hour after the polls closed.

(9,220 posts)The CA polls were close in late July and early August. That's when everyone (including myself) sounded the alarm.
Then Larry Elder became the GOP standard bearer and started talking.
That was the end of it. Polls leading up to the recall showed Newsom handily winning. The polls showed it wasn't even close.
Newsom pulled way ahead in the polling nearly two weeks before the election and was up by double digits with a week to go. No one who knew anything thought it was going to unresolved.

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
