This used to be a great forum over a decade ago with open minded progressives having serious discussion. Slowly a couple of right wingnuts worked their way in and have infiltrated and completely taking over the forum by bringing in more and more repulsive slobs. They're foul mouthed, ignorant and brag about how they've driven liberals off, and I guess I have to hand it to them, they came in and drove all but maybe 4 liberal members off the forum. You'd think the owners of this shithole would do something with membership having plummeted in recent years. I implore you good people to go over there and take this forum back and make it a True Liberal Forum as it once was. If I'm breaking any rules by posting this please remove it.

8. Reminds me of what happened at discussionist

Although, discussionist was intended for people across the entire spectrum. I liked that site for the first couple of months. Despite the differing opinions, people were actually pretty decent with each other. Even though I avoided the drama, I thought DU was a bit toxic and hostile for reasons I didn't understand. Those little wars all over the place. I'd be reading or involved in some interesting conversation, and then all of this sudden things would blow up. So, discussionist was nice... at first. Then the asshole conservatives either joined, or they dropped the friendly façade and it all turned to shit. It ruined the entire experiment. Which sucks. But at least DU is a good place again. Probably one of the least toxic and hostile places on the internet.

A long time ago DU had a rule against promoting other liberal sites. Justifiably in my opinion. Who promotes their competition and no, I did not alert on this post.

11. It amazes me

at how dogged right wingers can be. The idea of taking over a forum is just bizarre to me. You see this on FB liberal groups where the word gets out and the friggin Nazis come in and Blitzkrieg the thread. Of course with the lack of rules and the name Liberal forum it was an open target from the get go. Funny thing is I used to frequent shooting and firearm sites and they don't hesitate to ban you for not falling into political lockstep real quick.

13. "Funny" all right for that last. Some others who don't approve of Democrats,

but whose factions are without the critical mass to develop their own party and sustainable forum population, tend to gravitate here. DU's always watching for and expelling those who don't do an adequate job of hiding anti-Democratic and/or il-liberal attitudes, but others can be successfully "dogged" than Nazis by fitting in a lot better.

I've noticed that DU is big and vigorous enough to also "support" satellite forums that get a lot of their energy from DU. Discussionist was closed down, but providing a place to diss DU among friends (visiting DU to gather "dirt" to take back, and maybe create some too) is an important function of a few forums I'm aware of. No doubt there are others I'm not. Only one of them is conservative.

12. I visit that site often

It's a loony bin, for sure. I was even a moderator for a time. It's fun if you like to roll around in the mud for entertainment sake. As far as information and sensible debate, it's worthless.It's so unpopular they rarely have more than twenty members logged on at any given time. If you want to see how the looniest of the right wing loonies think, that place is the place to go for a good laugh.
