"Just a few weeks ago, Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger said, Nobody elected Joe Biden to be FDR," House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., said in a blustering speech against Biden's Build Back Better legislation on Thursday.
Right at that moment, a female voice shouted out, "I did."
Haley Talbott, Capitol Hill producer and reporter with NBC News and MSNBC, identified the female voice as that of Ocasio-Cortez.
NBC News National Political Reporter Sahil Kapur retweeted Talbot and included a video of the incident. Ocasio-Cortez retweeted Kapur.

The equivalent of a "talking filibuster", but in the House.
It was done to delay the vote on the BBB bill that was supposed to be voted on last night.

(182,829 posts)McCarthy described the IRS enforcement initiative as an expense of "billions of dollars to hire 87,000 IRS agents" who will be "going after Americans." The House minority leader slammed various provisions included in the legislation, including the expanded child tax credit program.

From 2012 - this was a big talking point for them
Sixteen thousand new Internal Revenue Service agents will be "empowered to enforce" the new health care legislation.

(2,636 posts)No more pandemic payments--we can't have people making the equivalent of a mere $31K for too long, why they'll stay home and live off the government. Just like Kevin does, with his much, much larger $174K salary.
We can't let parents of school age children have their tax credit monthly at $250-$300 per child--why, there might not be enough child hunger or food insecurity. If we expand childcare credits, why, we'll never undo those pesky child labor laws.
Wouldn't adding 87,000 cpas and accountants help the unemployment numbers? Wouldn't those tax auditors go after Americans who aren't paying their taxes??
The Tea Party begat this ignoramus. All outrage. Zero legislation. Shouting louder to win an argument he's already lost.

(58,785 posts)Rep. Spanberger's comment helps illustrate a difference between the few conservative house Democrats and our other 200 Democrats in the house.
Her own Democratic constituents want us to do big things, and some of their own parents probably voted for FDR to do great things in a time of similar fear and unrest. But conservatives are wired to drag their heels and slow and limit change.

(45,457 posts)they had to put in term limits because of him. People liked his policies and programs.
And I totally voted for that with Biden.
Biden's unique experience as Obama's VP qualifies him to rebuild our economy after Republicans screwed it up again, and again, and again. There seems to be a pattern here with Republicans destroying and Democrats rebuilding.
