Cornerstone pastor Matt Hagee issues apology after 'Let's go Brandon' Backlash

One can't hold a fervently political event filled with "Let's go Brandon" chants at a church and expect it to go unnoticed. Now Matt Hagee, lead pastor of Cornerstone Church and son of its controversial founder, John Hagee, has issued an apology for the far-right political conference saying it was "not appropriate" to hold in the church.

"Last week, I allowed an event to be held at Cornerstone Church by an outside organization. Regrettably, the organization was not properly vetted," Hagee says in the statement. "The Church is not associated with this organization and does not endorse their views."

It's not clear how much, if any, vetting was done. The ReAwaken America conference had controversial speakers like Dr. Stella Immanuel, who preached that alien DNA was in vaccines, and Donald Trump's former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, who has been linked to QAnon events and conspiracy theories.

Also on the speaker list was Roger Stone, who was convicted of witness tampering and obstruction during an investigation into Trump's 2016 presidential campaign. (He was pardoned by Trump just days before he was set to begin his prison sentence.)

Speakers touted misinformation about the vaccine and COVID-19 pandemic as well as calls for the U.S. to have only one religion.

Sure. Sure. He apologizes only because he got caught.
