Do you think carrying will now become more widespread? Do you think intimidation at the point of a gun will become more commonplace?

Because I would have never been in that situation to begin with.
Some years ago, not too long ago, I was somewhere a riot broke out maybe a quarter of a mile away at the time. Things set on fire, windows being smashed. The usual things you see during a riot. It's the Bay Area. It happens. Did I go, "This sounds like fun. I should go watch. Maybe walk right into the middle of it even. What could go wrong?"
No. I got in my car and drove my happy ass in the opposite direction.

not gated. Just a block up the hill from us is an orthopedist you know, a medical doctor, not one of the downtrodden blue-collar masses. I began to think maybe he would never take down his gigantic Trump flag, but he finally did. More recently he took down his Impeach Gov Newsom flag. Dont Tread on Me came down only recently. But he is still flying a discolored replica US flag with something effacing it its very limp, so its hard to tell, but I am pretty sure its nothing nice.
Recently a young couple moved in with their small children, about half a block from us, and one of his pals who helped him move in drove a pickup truck all bedecked with Trump flags. That was only a couple of months ago.
I was curious about the all-black flags so I visited Amazon, and discovered that there are multiple vendors, and that the product is highly rated and is a best-seller. Its the no quarter flag, which means they will shoot to kill.
By the way, Im not posting any pictures of my neighborhood, so you'll just have to take my word for it.

Given the shit happening in this nation, the kid gloves we're treating the right with, and the general stupidity gripping most Americans, I'm not at all confident we can wake enough people up to hold the House, Senate or White House in the next few years.

(38,318 posts)... however unlikely it is that some guy hiding in the bushes with his "military style" rifle is ever going to hit one.
My wild west great grandmothers had a more direct approach in dealing with fools and their guns, as in "If you bring a gun into my house, I'll kill you while you sleep."
And I don't know, they may have killed a few bad men and called the Sheriff-Coroner to clean up the mess and file the proper paperwork.
They didn't have any problem with guns in general, they themselves were hunters, but they didn't have any tolerance of gun fuckery. If you were caught fucking around with a gun at seventeen you went on their fool list, probably for life.
I never got in trouble with guns. I've eaten animals I've killed, but not here in the 21st century. I wouldn't want to hunt these days with all the fools out there who just want to shoot and don't really care about the eating.
I was more infatuated with fire, rockets, and explosives. Explosives could get you in trouble too. My grandma had a friend who'd blown his hand off with dynamite. That was back in the day when any fool could buy dynamite at the hardware store and some fools did.

(11,738 posts)We have to remember that this was a case of an idiot travelling to a place where there was civil unrest, armed and likely looking for problems.
People are interpreting this as open season, but it is not. The case that will have a much greater effect on that mentality is the Arbery case. What I think this Rittenhouse case may do is bring a whole bunch more attention on how Police handle protests, which is not good either. They may use this as a way to be more aggressive, and likely more in cases of left wing or Civil Rights type protests. What will remain unchanged unfortunately, is how they respond to White boys carrying guns. That is, unless it becomes a pattern, then there will absolutely have to be a deeper look.
I own firearms. They sit in locked containers in my locked home until I take them out for target practice. They will continue to sit there until actual evidence of their need is demonstrated. No such need has been demonstrated. Here. Guns are potentially deadly tools and their carry and use have SIGNIFICANT consequences for life and society. Decisions like whether to arm yourself or not, should not be made in the heat and emotion of a moment.

For me no guns I have bouts with clinical depression. However a different weapon maybe a blowgun and cuare frogs?
I have had anectine used on me in a psych ward.
Anectine is a form of cuare. Being forced and having it jabbed in my in my arm the effects of it was very traumatizing. It was in the name of controlling behavior.
Its a paralysis drug.
Knocking the bastards with cuare would render them unable to move.
Then they can be carried away and dumped somewhere isolated with no phones or vehicles.
In that way they dont die.
Just feel terrorized just like they would have me feel with thier violence.

I grew up with guns and hunting, and still live in deep red America. Now that we know the police won't protect us from Trump Nazi MAGATS, and the MAGATS can kill us with impunity, and our votes will no longer count after the elections of 2022...we feel we have no choice but to use means to protect ourselves, and our home, from these deluded, violent fascist lunatics.
We no longer feel that the local police will protect us, and our home, from violent Trump Nazi MAGATS. I'm old, but my eyesight is still 20/20. I can see where this is all going, from my first hand perspective, here in crazier than shithouse rat deep red America.
We are dealing with a movement comprised of the same people who worshiped Hitler, except that they worship Trump. If Sinemskya and Manchinskova don't stand up for democracy and the Constitution, by joining the rest of the Democratic party in protecting democratic electoral processes, the acceleration of our descent into autocratic fascist hell, from which there is no return, will begin.
Our laws do not protect us from minority rule. This is a flaw in the structure of our democracy that the fascists have almost perfected in exploiting. The numbers are not good.
