Just as the right is now using PeeWee Rittenhouse as a prop, the Left
can use him and his case as more evidence for the need for common sense gun legislation.
Also, never stop referring to him as a murderer. Regardless of what the jury decided, and regardless of any "self defense" law, he murdered two people, and tried to murder a third.

1. I'm still wondering
why Rittenhouse has not been charged for his role in the illegal straw purchase.
That's a federal offense. |

2. We have heard that it's likely he'll now be facing federal charges
Excellent question and welcome to DU!

6. No. Experts have said that's far fetched.
At most he'll be facing Civil Suits from the victims.

11. I saw that... requesting a review IS NOT the same as expecting charges
There are no Civil Rights charges that apply.
No Federal Crimes. No second "bite of the apple" because people don't like the State verdict. |

13. And I'm kinda' biased re: Politicus... because it's not a legitimate source... :)
here's a great summary by experts from Stanford:

19. Thanks! I obviously like Rep. Nadler a lot, from long before his role on the impeachment committee
Back when Al Franken had his Air America radio show (which I used to watch nights on Sundance TV), Nadler was his Rep. and he used to be a frequent guest.
Thanks for the article. Like everyone else here, I find this acquittal completely unacceptable. The kid crossed state lines with an automatic weapon and shot two people to death! ![]() ![]() |

15. Takes 2 to tango.
I don't see why he can not be charged with conspiring to break federal straw purchase law.

17. Because there's no such thing as a "Straw Gun" law..
It's called lying on your form 4473 which is filled out by the buyer.
This is basic stuff... don't like the laws then change them. |

conspired to lie on form 4473.
That's conspiracy to violate federal law. |

20. That's never been charged before.
Without precedent how do you think that'd fly in Court?
Like the President said, get over it, the Jury has spoken. I personally urge all to push their State Legislatures to change laws to cut down on this kind of thing happening again. This wouldn't have happened in California. |

of people have been charged, convicted and put in prison for conspiracy.
The law is already there. He conspired to violate federal law. |

24. One of my pet peeves. They use conspiracy law against black people like crazy. But with white people
it's usually just get the one who did it.

3. Stricter gun legislation wouldn't have mattered
in the Rittenhouse case. A friend of Kyle's bought the gun legally, then gave it to Kyle. No gun laws would have kept the friend from giving Kyle the weapon. He didn't care about the law when he gave the gun to him. Besides, the friend is being charged for for doing it, I've read recently. He could get up to 25 years, the article said. You can't prevent law breakers from ignoring laws; all you can do is punish them for doing it.

10. I'm aware. I was talking about the effort to enact the kind of legislation
that's been desired for decades.
At some point there has to be changes in the availability of firearms. |

23. I think the RWers would like that
nickname. They would think that it makes him a tough guy, a lib killer.
It has a good alliterative sound, but the word "murderer" is more specific and accurate. |

22. It doesn't take a lot to see that racist freak
kneeling in the street and shooting an assault rifle at unarmed people to know he is a cold blooded murderer. You know. I know it. The defense knows it. The judge knows it.
Racism is alive and killing. That’s all that is going on here: a modern version of “hanging them from the nearest tree.” |

25. I think in the long run he will pay for it. The rest of his life he will be living in
fear that a family member of the victims or someone else will catch him somewhere with no witnesses.
I think he will be getting verbally assaulted in public, getting his ass kicked and maybe worse the rest of his sorry life. He can't hide behind MAGAts, Proud Boys and Tucker forever. |
