(35,337 posts)do you really take Trump to be a valid authority?
People are advised to use this human right for a variety of legal reasons.
The completely common-sense sort of guarantees, in its original text:
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

(6,035 posts)... taking the 5th is 100% within his rights as American citizen.
You have to honor a congressional subpoena if they require your presence but you still have the right not to answer questions because of your constitutional right against self-incrimination.

(25,263 posts)run the video footage they have of him talking about the insurrection.
Then after the footage has been shown - start asking him questions - and basically dare him to take the 5th.
Again - I'm counting on the 1/6 Committee to call him to testify - during public meetings that will be telecast on TV.
I'd use this tactic with anyone that they call to testify - that they have video footage that would be incriminating to them.
Could make for some real interesting testimony. I want to see these treasonous bastards squirm. Then I'd like to see them going to prison.

(11,301 posts)Where is the DOJ?
I'm so sick and tired of a toothless Congressional Committee is being asked to do DOJ's job.

(1,528 posts)After watching 1/6 in real time, I was wondering what Jones was saying since he was such a big trumper.
He was sitting on a balcony of a hotel overlooking the mall and talking into the camera. I think he knew that the S was going to hit the fan because of the violence.
A couple of things he said as I remember it was that Trump and family had arranged for him personally to lead the march of the crowd down to the capitol. But, he said that some of the 3%/oath keepers/proud boys had taken off early so he was not the leader.
He also said that he was in the middle of raising the funds from several big donors to fund the initial Trumparama rally in the morning.
I hope that the investigators have this video as well as the others where he is talking about his dealings with the other organizers and funders.

(21,609 posts)people don't usually telegraph ahead of time that they will take the 5th, let alone admit that if they didn't, they would go to prison.
