"SNIP......
Former President Trump on Tuesday decried the spike in smash-and-grab robberies that have taken place across the country, calling on Democrats to take action to immediately stop the crimes, The Hill reports.
Said Trump, in a statement: If Democrats dont immediately stop smash-and-grab robberies, which are taking place in their cities, the National Guard must be called out. There has never been such a thing that has happened in our Country.

(14,368 posts)The right will spin this as Biden being soft on crime and not protecting people and property. With these events having spread to states outside of California now, they are likely to become a major national news story any day now.

(5,058 posts)Unfortunately, it fits in with the general idea that democrats are weak on economy, crime and immigration.

(20,769 posts)If the robbery was a smash and grab, an attempt to foist shonky goods or services or withholding money owing to a company or tradesperson; it's still fucking robbery.

(2,716 posts)With all this confidence in the abilities of the armed militia and vigalante posses, what's the problem?
Does the possibility of facing an armed vigalante stop someone from protecting a store? Where is the line? Are the local vigilantes all talk and no action?

These are likely organized online through one of the encrypted apps. These burglaries are destruction of property, theft, and most likely, larceny as they try to sell their stolen goods on ebay.
The Democrats do not control LOCAL police departments. Not a single one. Since it's clearly a trend, individual cities, townships, and municipalities are more than welcome to increase patrols in RETAIL areas. Individual Store owners or chains can also hire additional security. Even though it's widespread now, these are still local issues, not federal ones.
The local police and FBI should be watching FB marketplace, Ebay, Craigslist for mech reported stolen.
Way to go, GOP. The Party of law and order has brought us to the lawless vigilantism I read about in books depicting the fake old west.

(2,716 posts)He is calling out to some of his followers, those followers who want to hear him say, "You need to be out there".
He doesn't say anything about policing. He is saying that if the Democrats don't stop this, then the Democrats are not going to call out the National Guard either.
Nothing has to make sense - a state's governor calls out the Guard? Single retail stores are national interests?

(44,507 posts)Yes, it really is terrible when a mob of unruly people forcibly breaks into a place, tears it apart, and disrupts its regular business, all in an attempt to steal away something that was never rightfully theirs.
