I hate wearing a mask

I do it for the following reasons:

Attempt to keep myself safe from catching it from the mask holes who refuse to wear one.
Keep others safe if per chance I have it and do not know it and minimize passing it on.
I don’t want to kill another human being.

Really pretty fucking simple if you ask me.

Sun Dec 12, 2021, 02:53 PM
Dec 2021

I wear an N95 mask that’s very comfortable, but a bit fiddly to adjust for a snug fit, so I leave it on while driving between errands. I also live in red country. For some reason, wearing a mask while driving infuriates the mouth breathers. I’ve been yelled at in intersections and parking lots. I cheerfully wave and go about my business.

I wear glasses and an adjustable KF94 mask. It takes a while for me to get it on just right, where it's tight enough and won't fog my glasses. Plus why touch it with my hands when I don't have to? I'm supposed to compromise my health and comfort to please anti-maskers who might be offended at the sight of someone wearing a mask in the car? I don't understand why anti-maskers have made such a big deal about wearing a mask in the car.

I was curious what the thinking was there. Makes sense.

I definitely wear sunglasses a lot less nowadays because of the fogging up. Luckily my vision is still better than 20/20 as I approach 50.

I strictly adhere to wearing indoors and immediately remove once I’m outside. I confront pretty aggressively anyone in the elevator of my building who dares not to mask up. I was more aggressive about it before my nine year old got vaccinated.

We eat outside happily in the Chicago (just moved from NYC in July) cold when we go to restaurants while others are fine eating inside.

I do go to the office 3 days a week, but don’t wear a mask once outside the elevator. We have a strict vaccine requirement to come to the office and no visitors are allowed. The ceiling is 30 feet high and my nearest neighbor is far away and only 30% or so come in on any given day. That is the only indoor place outside my home that I don’t wear a mask.

Maybe a very cold day in winter is ok, but I can’t imagine running 6 miles at a 7:30-8:00 per mile clip with a mask.

Even at the gym, when I wear a mask, I do squats followed immediately by pull ups for 9 sets. By the end, I have to find a corner to catch my breath without the mask, but I am otherwise very adherent to the rules…many are wearing below their nose tge entire time which pisses me off.

Sun Dec 12, 2021, 03:47 PM
Dec 2021

I recently upgraded to N100 masks just for caution's sake. Ordered these two:

3M Particulate Respirator 8233, N100, Cool Flow Exhalation Valve, Adjustable Noseclip, Braided Comfort Strap, Faceseal

(ordered through Amazon)

Moldex Model 4700N100 -- Disposable Respirator, NIOSH Rating N100, exhalation valve, adjustable elastic strap, faceseal

(ordered through Grainger).

Note that these are valved in front. The majority of N100 masks are valved -- but there are a few without valves. These might not work for you depending on your locality.

My thinking is the large majority of folks here in the Phoenix area do NOT wear masks. Wearing one of these, at least I am nearly 100% protected. I also notice that on Twitter some people wear these and then cover over the front with an earloop surgical mask for situations that require masks (doctors, hospitals, etc.)

I really like the Moldex 4700N100. For something so protective -- and it feels a bit like wearing a SCUBA mask -- it's actually comfortable. Wore it for 4 hours yesterday with no problem.

Wearing it is the only way I feel safe going to the grocery store, etc.

Who said they were wearing a cloth mask? Rarely see those anymore anyway. We now have to wear the N-95masks to protect ourselves from the anti-vaxxers who want to spew on everyone else because they are bullies.

I do agree about the sitting in a cafe mask less but having to shop with one being counter productive. Eating indoors during Covid is like when restaurants once had smoking sections on one side of the restaurant and non smoking on the other side. As if the smoke stayed on it's side.

Don't call someone neurotic when they just explained they were trying to protect themselves and others. Sounds like a compassionate person which I can tell you are not from your tone. See ya around OR NOT> BYE BABY troll

....it wouldn't be as bad to wear a mask for 8 + hours. As a teacher who needs to project my voice, I have started taking it off when I am over 6-7 feet away from them to give directions, usually just at the beginning of class. If I don't, it makes me very anxious when I try to take a deep breath and can't which causes me to get overheated and flustered. I always have it on when interacting with my students and moving around the room which is most of the time.

At my high school, app. 80% students wear a mask yet maybe 70% correctly. (based on personal observation in the hallways) Thank goodness that about 90 % of my art kids wear them with 80% -85% wearing them correctly. This does gives me some hope. They take it seriously.

Most administrators don't wear a mask, all of the coaches and most of the athletes don't wear one either. The fact that we haven't had a big outbreak after pep rallies and close contact sports and no social distancing has been surprising. I am thinking that most of those athletes have been vaccinated, possibly??? We get a notice of app. 2 kids a week who are positive for Covid but we all know it's more than that but at least not taking out entire classrooms. Masks WORK.

I wish we knew how many of our students, faculty and staff were vaccinated. I will continue wearing my mask for now even though I'm recently boosted. ( I admit though- I do resent my co-workers who don't- because we are not out of the woods on this yet. It has been this lack of "we are all in this together" attitude which has caused so much unnecessary pain and suffering during this pandemic)

...but I was at a high school function recently where a high profile, internationally-known celebrity was in attendance with her children. (She lives in the area and was there as "mom" and not in any entertainment capacity.)

Everyone there was wearing masks. She was all masked up and was being quite discrete, although many know who she was (including me).

I chatted with her a bit, and she was in good spirits and said that many celebrities - including her - liked the mask requirements in a way because it enables them to go out in public to do "normal" things and not be recognized. She mentioned how cool it was that she's been going to a local grocery market, hardware store and drug store without having an assistant with her and without being hassled.
