Denver area worst in U.S. for porch pirates, study suggests

Today's Cyber Monday purchases need to come with a warning when shipping to Colorado: Beware of porch pirates.

Threat level: A confluence of trends — more online shopping amid the pandemic, shipping delays and rising prices — will make package theft a bigger headache than ever this year.

54% of Americans plan to shop online more this year, compared to prior holidays, a new study by SafeWise and Cove Home Security reports, and package values have increased.

64% said they had a package stolen in the last year, up from 47% a year ago.

This is much more than I would have expected.

So far we've been lucky. But someone is at home nearly all the time and we have over a dozen security cameras covering every square foot of our property (and professional signs alerting to the fact) so that may be a contributing factor to our good fortune.

One of my neighbors asked if it would be "better" to remove the signs so that we could "catch someone" with the video. But we explained that we wanted to DETER the crime, not invite it... and the cameras are there to document what happened and to (hopefully) help to identify individuals who ignore the signs.
