Michael Fanone resigns from D.C. police force 11 months after battling mob at the Capitol

Michael Fanone, the D.C. police officer who was dragged into a mob and beaten during the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol and later publicly excoriated lawmakers and others who downplayed the attack, said he submitted his resignation from the force Monday.

The 41-year-old officer will officially depart on Dec. 31, after using previously acquired leave. Fanone, whose frequent appearances on national television caused consternation among police commanders, said he will be an on-air contributor to CNN on law enforcement issues. A CNN spokeswoman confirmed his new role.

Fanone, who voted for Donald Trump in 2016 but did not support his reelection bid, spent months after the Jan. 6 riot repeatedly warning about threats to democracy, often alongside CNN anchor Don Lemon.

But his public appearances did not sit well with some fellow officers, who, according to Fanone, derided him in private Internet chat forums for police.

I've said more than once he'd be a good on-air personality for a news outlet. CNN was smart to scoop him up.

I don't know what to think of the reaction from his "fellow officers"... so I won;t comment on what my initial reactions are.

I'll just say good on Michael Fanone and wish him and his family the best. I can't think of any harm he would bring to the table as a CNN Contributor.

Succeeded would not be happy with Fanone talking about the traitors of Jan 6.

6. The DOJ would do well to have a look at those internet forums for cops

and weed out the fascists and militia types among law enforcement. Fanone didn't face Portland suburbia Moms, Dads with leafblowers, and 80 year old social justice warriors. He faced violent seditionists. And yeah, some of the anonymous online "peace officers" are way too willing to join Mango Mussolini's Brownshirts.

I believe some police operations & investigations should not be transparent, as to not to corrupt an investigation,
but everything else should be as close to 100% transparent at possible.

I'm glad that he's off the streets so he doesn't have to worry about being shot or beaten up,
unless he goes to a Pendejo45 rally as CNN reporter and Pendejo45 commands his followers to go after him.
Which he did with Katy Tur of MSNBC.
