https://www.rawstory.com/trump-proud-boys-2656167211/Trump seems to throw the Proud Boys under the bus for Capitol riots in new legal filing
In his effort to have a lawsuit accusing him of sparking the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol dismissed, former President Donald Trump is arguing he's not responsible for the violent actions his supporters took, Bloomberg reports.
Speakers at political rallies do not owe a duty of care to members of Congress or Capitol Police Officers not at the rally, Trumps lawyer Jesse Binnall said in the Dec. 24 court filing.
Trump's team argued that his words on Jan. 6 were in line with a presidents right to take advantage of the bully pulpit.
"The complaint, which also names right-wing groups like the Proud Boys, alleges many of the defendants 'planned, aided, and actively participated in that attack' and that 'all defendants are responsible for it,'" Bloomberg reports.

(6,225 posts)There going to need a whole lot of buses at Mar-a-Lago for TFG to be able to throw all those January 6th "tourists" under.
Donnie's keeping busy these days cutting the cords to his base.

When his base comes to that realization - that will be the end of TFG.

Remember, he left the cultists at one of his rallies stranded in freezing weather, miles from their cars, and never gave any indication afterwards that he gave a crap. That should've been the final nail, but then any number of incidents before and after should've been the final nail.

Talk, guys, talk! Bury that orange abomination! Throw him under the bus, and when he rolls out the other side, throw him under again, as many times as it takes!

(145,631 posts)TFG, Rudy, the war room and the proud boys/other groups are or were all part of a conspiracy and as such the actions of one part of the conspiracy are applicable to the the other members. This brief seems to ignore the concept of a conspiracy other than to claim that if the KKK Act covers such conduct, then that statute is too broad and is unconstitutional. This is from the filing
conspiracy could be construed any time there is a standoff between the political
branches that involves emotionally charged speech. This would make the statute
subject to a facial challenge for being overbroad or void for vagueness. The
overbreadth doctrine allows facial challenges to unbounded statutes to prevent the
chilling of First Amendment speech.

(17,353 posts)There are rumors someone in the White House mentioned pardons. Plus I'm sure they promised them other
goodies as well, money, no gun buying restrictions was probably on proud boys bucket list. It's harder for
felons to overthrow a Government if they can't buy any fully automatic gun they want with 1000 round clip.

(63,226 posts)As a group, nothing will turn them away from the kkkult. Sure, some outliers might see the light, but for the most part they've made him a part of their identity, and nothing so petty as a legal firing our documented betrayal will change that.

Same for Trump's defense - well yes, I stirred them up into an irrational rage, but I didn't expect them to ACT it out!
As for Jesse Binnall of Trumps defense team - dude, the President of the United States owes a duty of care to ALL people in the country!
Nor does the Freedom of Speech thing allow words that are encouraging others to break the law or harm others.
Some followers of TFG will shake their heads and go to jail, others will shake their heads and sever the imaginary links they developed with him in the past.
Others would follow him to the gallows, so expect those to act up.

(5,443 posts)has the leader of one country done so much, and left such a mess to be cleaned up in 4 short years, to destroy Democracy.
History books will say that clearly.
And please carve that into his tombstone.
Is there a special graveyard for leaders the USA would rather forget about?

Pawns that don't stick to the script get discarded. Without a second thought.
One of TFG's failings as a human being. Amongst others.

He is arguing in court essentially, I can say what I want without consequence, and Why should I care what harm my words cause to a bunch of cops and members of congress? neither of which is likely to go well.
