Stabbing Results From Anti-Abortion Harassment Outside Of Planned Parenthood Clinic That Doesnt Perform Abortions
By Tara Culp-Ressler on Oct 24, 2012 at 10:52 am
Yesterday, a 22-year-old woman kicked an anti-abortion protesters sign as she made her way into an Oregon-area Planned Parenthood clinic, and the protester pushed her in response. The woman returned with her father, who instigated a physical confrontation with the protester later identified as 54-year-old Christopher R. Tolhurst which resulted in Tolhurst repeatedly stabbing the man. The Oregonian reports that he remains in the hospital recovering from seven stab wounds to the abdomen.
A spokesperson for Planned Parenthood for Southwestern Oregon explained to the Associated Press that the clinic that inspired the violent confrontation only provides health services, such as contraception and cancer screenings, and doesnt perform any abortion services. Nevertheless, residents of the neighborhood confirmed that Tolhurst regularly harasses the clients who visit the health clinic:
It was an accident looking for a place to happen, she said.
Cherie Adams said he would yell obscenities at her when she walked past him, and she changed her route to work.
Hes been out there for months, she said. Hes screaming at people. I had a feeling something like this would happen.

but he probably would have went off on someone eventually and maybe killed someone. I hope they charge him with attempted murder and he spends a long amount of time in prison
One bad post does not equate being a Conservative. I made a mistake post and he changed if maybe the people who said hurtful things to me need to do the same.

(115,103 posts)It is popular to advocate the use of rape as a punishment, but it is a sentiment that has no place on DU.
Bigoted slurs are also unwelcome.
Would you please consider rewording your post?

It is not popular to say the same thing for women.
Sure a few fundies do. But it doesn't have the same popular support as "hope you don't drop the soap" statements directed towards men.

and women consistently call the men out that does it.
you are welcome.

(6,801 posts)of course since our culture says it's acceptable and our culture is a majority female (roughly 51%) . . . .

(9,902 posts)do not find this as acceptable. The post should be hidden, or modified by the poster.

(6,801 posts)I was just noting the double standard.
We wouldn't even be discussing this if it were a joke about a woman being raped as punishment (or a sincere wish).
That post would have been hidden six to zero and the poster banned.

(53,661 posts)They don't perform abortions, but for these mindless maniacs, the words Planned Parenthood is a red flag. Ready to go off at a moment's notice, showing up to bully women. Jesus is weeping for the lost souls of these hateful mobs.
