The chair of the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol said Thursday that the committee has received information showing that members of Congress met with people who came to Washington to participate in protests over the planned certification of electoral votes last year.

“We have information that members hosted people who came to Washington on that day in their office,” Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-Miss.) said during an interview Thursday at a Washington Post Live event. “We have pictures of members [of Congress] taking pictures with people who came to the rally. . . . There’s a smaller subset of members that have been identified who probably did more to encourage the ‘Stop the Steal’ part of coming to Washington.”

Thompson did not elaborate on the committee’s findings, including whether the panel has information that these lawmakers had any knowledge about the possibility of violence on Jan. 6. But his comments during the interview suggested an intensifying focus on the activities of members of Congress in the days and hours before the protests began.

During the broadcast conversation, Thompson reiterated his determination to seek information from members of Congress. The committee has asked for interviews with Republican Reps. Scott Perry of Pennsylvania and Jim Jordan of Ohio. Both men have said they do not intend to cooperate.

before in the Capitol Building.

As I recall the story this Dem representative had a military background and she was trained to notice unusual events, and she found it odd that a GOP representative was leading a tour when and where it took place.

that deserve the most severe punishment for the insurrection.

The others that deserve severe punishment are the parties that planned, funded, and directed the failed insurrection.

Most so far prosecuted are the MAGA fools.

the select committee has no authority to prosecute, it can only make referrals to DOJ.

I keep hearing about all of this evidence and I hope that DOJ is hearing it too.

Should DOJ be investigating who gave the Capitol tours, who disabled the panic buttons, isn't that building a case from the bottom up?

I hope that DOJ isn't just investigating 1/6.

Yeah we already knew this early last year.

But the general public has likely forgotten completely which allows the announcement put new public pressure on some GOP members.

Look, the organization of the event (before the White House took over) was done by long-time Trumpists and/or long-time GOP activists who were coming to DC for a political event.

It'd have been as odd as hell if none of them met with any Senators or Representatives before the event.

Now it's a great excuse to rake the lawmakers over the coals and see if their story matches the story of the organizers. But I wouldn't expect any smoking gun on it unless one of the organizers needs to throw a lawmaker under the bus to save themselves.

There's been too much time passed for them to have gotten their stories straight to expect any surprises.

no, it is a horrible thing to write.

Has any of these big thinker members thought about what would have happen to them personally if the mob didn’t recognize them? Or just didn’t care? I mean they had the gallows good to go.
They are so far up their own asses they couldn’t imagine that they could have murdered a co-worker, or allowed a gang rape of a office worker?

In Florida, just driving the car while your passenger robs and shoots the worker at the 7-11, means you also have the same charge. You didn’t know your passenger was going to rob the store? Doesn’t matter.
