(21,360 posts)Democratic politicians better be extra careful obeying the law. An arrest of a Democrat would be proof of bipartisanship.

(21,757 posts)Then where did this come from:
"He was supposed to be charged by now."
Got a cite?
And if you are saying that the DOJ is giving political cover for repugs... Who are you talking about other than the guy running it? Do you think there are rogue factions in the DOJ giving repugs cover and Garland does not see it?

(21,360 posts)Garland chose not to prosecute individual one, and now the statute of limitations has expired.
Merrick Garland did not have to represent the office of the presidency in the E. Jeanne Carroll defamation law suit, but he did. Explain to me why a president defaming a person he is accused of raping is an official duty of the presidency? JMHO, but any AG taking that case I would complain about.
Garland chose not to go after the pro-Trump Cyber Ninjas who violated federal law, he instead wrote them a stern letter.
I also am waiting for his decision on Mark Meadow, day 23 today since he got the criminal referral from the select committee.
Merrick Garland is a nice guy, but we don't always need nice guys.

(104 posts)Where is the drum beat for Meadows? Every day we saw post after post on Bannon, barely a word on Meadows. I would add, no Mueller report or a less generalized explanation as to why not.
He may be doing his due diligence on Gaetz or others involved that are caught up in his net, but there is no question on the report or Meadows. The people deserve to know the corruption of Barr, and Meadows blew any claim of privilege, so where is the beef?
Sorry, as it stands, Garland is willting in the face of hurting Republican feelings and their amorphous threats. So far, he is a bust. He can still turn it around, but the clock is ticking.
It should be remembered that Obama nominated him because he is so middle of the road and milctose that he would not spark an outcry on the right. Well, it appears, we got our human glass of milk, and I think it is skim.
I hope he proves me wrong.

(21,757 posts)Though I expect none of it will satisfy you.
"Garland chose not to prosecute individual one, and now the statute of limitations has expired."
This is in regard to campaign finance violations. They faced a few issues... First, Cohen is neither a reliable nor believable witness to put on the stand and he is the only witness. Second, even if they did go forward and put Cohen on the stand the defense would rip him apart, including other times he lied to the feds. Next, campaign finance violations are almost never get a conviction and with only one unreliable witness it would almost certainly end without one.

I agree. Garland opted to follow bad precedent and would have much better served justice to abandon it instead.
"Garland chose not to go after the pro-Trump Cyber Ninjas who violated federal law, he instead wrote them a stern letter."
The ninjas wanted to go door to door as part of their plan. Garland warned them that if they did, they would be prosecuted so they abandoned the plan. That repugs in Arizona hired them for a bogus recount is not in and of itself a federal crime by the ninjas. They have court cases hammering them for not complying with court orders, but they seem to be out of business. Plus they scammed plenty of magats for millions. Unfortunately, our current laws do not give Garland any ability to go after the people who did it, they are protected by corporate law... Or are as best I've seen so far. This should not be allowed but Garland does not make the law.
"I also am waiting for his decision on Mark Meadow, day 23 today since he got the criminal referral from the select committee."
I am as well, I expect we'll see what happens before long.
"Merrick Garland is a nice guy, but we don't always need nice guys."
Garland is following the law and that is what we need. Bringing cases based on what we want to happen and that would be laughed out of court was what TFG did... I see no reason to follow his example.

(21,162 posts)I always had a bad feeling some of those children taken from INS were sex trafficked. I hope this opens up that can of worms.

(21,162 posts)On my flight while I was boarding I saw a woman who wasnt their Mother with three young girls, a pair of twins about 9 and a younger one about 4. I mentioned to the lady about the twins and she said they were actually triplets and the third was a boy who was going to Los Angeles. They were all holding dolls and looked scared. I am a teacher and know when children are stressed. I said hello to them and the lady said they dont speak English only Spanish. My Spanish is limited but I asked them how are they doing? One girl said malo( bad). When we finally got on they were in first class and I was in economy plus. But it really bothered me the entire flight something was wrong. When we got to SF and I went to baggage claim I didnt see them.
To this day I think about those girls and wonder if they were being sex trafficked. It was at the height of assolini taking children away from their parents at the border. But my gut told me something bad was happening to them and I felt helpless.

(15,943 posts)Perhaps Anton Lazzaro will spill some beans.
And just perhaps the Republicon Party is the guilty party concerning pedophiles, and sex trafficking.
Oh and be sure to read the twitter feed, more juicy details.
Here's #7/ Um, the woman who allegedly procured underage girls for Anton Lazzaro was arrested in Matt Gaetzs county in Florida. Lazzaro has been photographed w/ Tucker Carlson. Gaetz claimed to have dined w/ Tucker & Gaetzs young companion.
The air is getting thicker in here.
