On the NBC network news tonight was a general story about Covid. Gabe Gutierrez was reporting from a Covid ward. There was a nurse who was there, in the thick of it, on her day off. Gutierrez, acknowledging it was her off day, asked her why she was there.
Because I'm a nurse.
Quietly, no grandstanding, just a sincere answer, made all the more true by her decision to be there.
To all nurses and everyone on the front lines, THANK YOU.

(3,647 posts)She graduated from nursing school at age 22 and went straight to a neuro ICU. She specialized for years in the 1st 12 hours post open heart surgery. That's where I met her (I was a biomedical electronics manager for the heart surgery program). These days she's fighting the good fight to beat Covid.
Nurses are Angels of Life.

(37,451 posts)she and a couple co-workers are off decompressing. They wanted her to work more hours, why because the promised help isn't showing up as the VA promised.
