'Why I Hate Religion But Love Jesus' Creates Controversy On YouTube

Don't agree with all of this, but it does make you think.

I do believe that structured religions can and do get in the way of acting on teachings that they profess to believe. Why would you build huge religious buildings to the glory of God when his real glory would be in helping the poor?

Those buildings can be places to try to understand and test beliefs. Instead, many of them are places where people go to reinforce what they want to believe. An example is the people who preach it's okay to get rich without mentioning helping the downtrodden. People want to believe this because they want to assuage any guilt over their bank accounts that they don't use to help others at all.

Some people go to church to tithe and profess their faith. Beyond that, they never really personally act on these beliefs. Many of them have never seen or understood the plight of those who are poor, enslaved, or forgotten. They give their money as if that's the only action they need to take.

The poor are mentioned hundreds of times in the Bible, and yet they are treated as pariahs by many today. The candidates for office have made them scapegoats for everything.

This is my usual rant about the mooks I see in SC with their piety fluffed out like bright plumage for all to see. They wouldn't know Jesus if he bit them on the butt.

It should be 'WWJD? YNJ!' What would Jesus do? You're not Jesus!

For those of us who actually know something about the teachings in their holy book it sure does look like hypocrisy.

Good for them that we are few and far between, eh?

But, but I want to "like" it or "recommend" it.
or whatever it is that we do on DU3 now to
support an OP.

But I couldn't find any options for doing that... ?

Whatever, still a very cool message.

and calling you immoral and evil, it's time to take out the rules and examine them.

Unlike Rightwing Christians, i don't demand that they live according to my beliefs or die.

I don't want them to live with nothing so that I can have everything.

It's time to ask why they aren't "doing unto others."

If that's what their good book says to do.......

Masses of today's American Christians have pretty much forgotten what Christianity is all about.

7. "Religion is what keeps the poor from killing the rich"

That quote is often attributed to Napoleon Bonaparte but to me it says it all.

Organized religion is simply a tool of the ruling classes to keep the masses in line by scaring the crap out of them with tales of the afterlife. It's worked for thousands of years and it doesn't show any signs of not working even in the age of science.

many it's an exclusive club. And for many a control mechanism for the flocks, and a path to easy money. It's another line of business. And for others a control freak's paradise. They are oh, so special.

or their Christianity? I have a good friend who is Christian but she too isn't too hyped on religion as an institution either, she too sees it as the problem. I've often posted here and said in real life, there's a huge difference between religion and faith. Some people have religion and those people are often the one's that take all the bad from the bible and hit people over the head with it, they are the loudest in their beliefs. Some people have faith and are quiet in their beliefs, doing acts instead of just spewing talking points. These are the people that are doing the real good.

I've also often said I think a lot of people who follow religion are going to be surprised when their judgement comes (though as an atheist I don't believe that's going to happen but they believe it, so who am I to say they're wrong in their beliefs?)

Said the best thing about Christianity was Jesus but that the worst thing about Christianity was the Christians.

I'd like to think of myself as a follower of Jesus and I think alot of DUers here are too even if they call themselves Atheists. Because to follow Jesus means to actually live by the words he spoke in the Gospels which had him reaching out helping the poor and shunning the established. Jesus was the original 99%
