I had another run-in with a Trumpster!

At a truck stop this morning. Leaving the truck stop I ask another driver to move forward so I didn’t bounce the trailer tires over the curb, plus he blocking the exit. I honk a couple of times to get his attention. Finally, I start to get out and asked him move. He jumps and starts yelling at me “he’s on break”. He refused to move! I replied “please move forward so I can clear the curb?” He still refuse to move! I didn’t say anymore and ease my trailer over the curb. When I passed his truck I saw a Trump flag in his truck. He was cussing me as I left. Unbelievable how things are today. Especially the Trumpsters! Just because he was on break, he thought he was entitled to inconvenience everyone around him!

I travel a lot, and from the 80's-2015 or so always had a CB in my car. I saw a clear degeneration of many drivers that I now realize coincided with AM hate radio and satellite radio. And every time I stop at a truckstop, the Fox "news" sewer is on all the TVs.

It's sad. Trucking used to be a good job, and as others have noted, drivers used to be good reliable people.

Rightwing fascism is destroying what makes this country great in so many ways, often ways not realized.

In my thirties a friend and I drove to Florida quite often. We were young and fit
girl/women.

If we slept, we would find a truck stop and park between two semis. We always tried to talk to them if they were awake.

NOTHING bad ever happened.

They always were protective and nice to us.
Even the ones that didn’t speak English.

I doubt one could do that today.

If he was on his 30 minute break moving his truck would have resulted in him having to start his 30-minute break all over again. I'm sure his truck was probably equipped with ELD equipment (to track movement of any kind). My daughter works for a trucking company as log and compliance manager. Move that truck before your 30 is over and you go back to start.

Of course, he shouldn't have parked where he was blocking the exit in the first place. Sorry you dealt with this. Safe driving.

According to FMCSA regs drivers are required to certify their logs and moving their vehicle when they're not supposed to (even under 5mph and a few feet) is a falsification of their logs. The fact that the ELD wouldn't "kick in" under 5mph is kind of beside the point.

Still, as I said before, the other driver shouldn't have parked where they parked.

The relationship between asshole behavior and trump support may simply be an intersection on a larger Venn diagram. I'd say trump support CAUSES asshole behavior, in other words, but it may not be the causal variable of all asshole behavior...a specific asshole behavior might have a root cause in some other factor, such as hemorrhoids, gerd, or spousal separation.

However, trump support seems to tilt the scale away from patience and politeness toward obnoxiousness.

That driver might truly have been constrained by big brother tech installed in his rig, but trump support definitely contributed to the fact he was yelling and cussing.

When you peel back the grievance, gun worship, entitlement, and racism, I see people who feel like they do not have the ability to navigate a modern world of diversity and rapid change. Since they rarely talk to each other, those opportunities to enrich their lives are lost. The doctor stays smug about her intellectual and financial achievements while complaining to peers about the rude truck driver. The driver soaks up his view of the world from right-wing radio...Listening to how the elites are targeting his last vestiges of power. He feels cornered. The driver lashes out...like the two-year old throwing her peas on the floor.

It’s been noticeable since around the end of the year. I drive a hybrid not a Prius but it looks like one. I drive as to what the traffic is doing. Always err on being the one who eases off. Not slow but my days of being airborne in cars is over.

I had a pickup pull right on my bumper and flash his brights, evidently in an effort to get me to speed up.

I was on the freeway, but traffic was heavy and there was a car in front of me. I was going to exit in a couple of miles, so I could see little point in switching to a lane that wasn't going much faster than the one i was in.

The car in front of me slowed abruptly. So I, too, slowed abruptly.

The pickup driver must have assumed I brake-checked him. He mashed down on his brights, which stayed on until he finally decided to move over and pass me. I could see one of his hands was raised as he passed, and I assume the central digit of that hand was extended.
