General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI heard Rep. Raskin say something like this and it says it all.
Our nation cannot begin to heal until there is a reckoning.
I have no doubt he was talking about Trump and his band of traitors when it comes to a reckoning.
It is clear, if we indict, convict Trump and his enablers, the rule of law will stand and our nation can begin to heal.
If we do not indict , convict Trump and his enablers the rule of law will collapse along with our democracy.
The members of the committee know this and so does Garland. I am just guessing, I believe the committee has the goods. The evidence that they will turn over to Garland. Evidence that will send these no good rotten traitors to prison. Evidence when shown to the American people in open hearings will wake them up. As you know most Americans do not follow the news like we do. The news that comes out of the hearings will be everywhere, impossible to ignore.
During the open hearings I am sure the committee is going to make clear what is at stake to the people. It will be too frightening to ignore. It will terrify the people and they will demand action. We all better hope this is true.

(11,639 posts)But, Pence did not go along with the coup, and there are bound to be some other rather wishy-washy ones who are just waiting to believe it is safe to stick their heads out. After all, when it is all made public and TFG is staring down a prison sentence the blackmail and threatening calls might slow down.
The bribery money will be used instead for lawyers and the 'rallies' to help drum up cash will have shrunk to a few people who just want to see the loser incriminate himself some more. By then you would think someone, perhaps his spawn, will inform him to keep his pie hole shut tight.
His rallies could be just him claiming to be the greatest and then to plead the 5th. Some of his pathetic almost dance steps to ripped off music. A pair of cymbals (like the wind-up monkey toy) maybe or a paper accordion would work as he performs to the mostly-in-his-mind crowds of adoring fans.

(4,402 posts)Gerald Ford's state EVER voting to make him POTUS! What needed to happen post-Nixon resignation was an open election. The American people, under leadership of the right-side of the aisles, gave the GOP and Nixon the easy way out, a 25th Amendment presidential succession appointment of Ford replacing a convicted State criminal, Spiro Agnew (a safe resignation and a plea deal sentence w/probation of jail time and a fine not even equal to his tax evasion), then higher, without a single People's vote for that highest Executive office, POTUS. And just who really needed that national "healing" that gave us spooky *41, Ray-gun, *43 spouting all along the global freeway of fascist discrimination by stagnating the wages hard won by a Middle Class, the primacy of fossil-fuel markets, the rise and fall cycled isolation/monopolization of advanced tech in Silicon Valley, creative mortgage accounting methods of cheating RE owner-investors propped up by bankers too big to fail, not to mention bigAdvertising of top recreational pursuits of the masses, bigPharma/insurance, bigAgra, and MSM pandering mythologies, outright fantasies, and CTs to their dumbed-down viewers/listeners. It's all for sale in America at exorbitant cost of our general welfare, and the temptations to succumb and suppress with opinion over fact, money, power, and control through crime and violence are irresistible to far too many! Our money is fiat, but only the haves have more recently reaped the benefits of IOU notes of a government, under the GOP, that became far less concerned with domestic health, peace, and opportunity for ever-improving democratic longevity that respects our mixed and blended national culture. Who knew it was so difficult to determine which healthy ingredients together make for a tasty blended smoothie and then clean up the messes we make for the recipes that don't quite work? Yup, a rant and an empty chuckle we can hardly afford.

why did tRump beg his magats to go full magat
.when he is charged with crimes against democracy
cause he and minions will go down like the Titanic. Day after day of rock solid evidence of guilt being introduced for public consumption, before and during the trial.
Thats all hes got
the R silent majority that hates him will flee him in droves, no more fear of primaries by the magats, and the magats on Twitter the demon relies on and everyone pretends are not mere cyber warriors, not real warriors, will be useless
The silent majority of Republicans, now snivelling cowards, will suddenly become lions
high hypocrisy ofc but will forgive them until the next election and they r booted.
And the brown shirts are in jail even now, and more to come, and soon enough , not too soon for some, ofc,
the brownshirts and brownnosers who sold their souls for eternal power and wealth will all be convicted of seditious conspiracy
10 to 20 years jail appropriate and likely. Go to hell, all of them.
Magats in the streets when the indictments drops? LOL
Good luck with that when your own party abandons you in droves, in public, before the trial of the century begins.

(28,818 posts)McConnell is still very powerful and i don't see anyone calling for his head, even though he's evil personified and has arguably done more to break this country than any other single person. that's just one example.
I hope fervently that trump goes down along with his merry band of insane fascists, but that's not enough to fix us.

(3,535 posts)But the people that NEED to be 'woken up' use the term 'woke' as an INSULT!
By all means, the traitors should be brought to justice. But the 'unwoke' (and 'unwashed') will just have to be dealt with. Don't expect to win them over with facts; they have already proven that they are immune to facts (its the only immunity they have!).

(8,893 posts)than the Dems taking Trump down. it would relieve them of having their party involved.
The Republicans are most interested in getting his voters, without inflicting a wrath of hell on the party for taking or helping take down Trump..
If they are able to get the presidency and the Senate, or worse the House Senate and Presidency All of the citizens of the U.S.
will have a rude awakening and find out what it is like to Live in Russia or any other "authoritarian" nation forever more.......
The biggest irony to this, is that the 70 million Republican Voters don't even begin to realize that this group of New Republicans are going to take them out, along with all of the Dems.......

You have to hope there's enough fodder there to keep rethuglicans out of power for a long time.
I don't believe TFG will run again. He's going to be knee deep in indictments and trials.

I don't have hope. We (They) saw overwhelming and compelling evidence TWICE from the House proving that TFG was and is corrupt and twice he was not convicted in the Senate and is still walking free. He's STILL individual 1 and free. He still has millions of maggots following him and ready to storm and harm others.

(7,404 posts)How do you find a jury that will actually examine the evidence and vote to convict based on the evidence? Jury nullification is unavoidable. Trump will not be found not guilty but neither will he be found guilty. It will be a hung jury. Then what?

(4,913 posts)I posted recently a federal grand jury was prepared to indict Nixon while he was still in office. Four serious charges. They did indict many of Nixons top aides, like his Whitehouse counsel, his AG. They went to prison. Then Nixon resigned and before he could be indicted Ford pardoned him for all his crimes.
Trump is no longer a sitting president. He is fair game. Many of his top aides are in serious trouble. Some of them could turn just like some turned against Nixon.
