There wouldn't be clearly defined geographic lines. It won't be north vs south. Everywhere would be a front line. It would look more like the Troubles in Northern Ireland at best or a sickening mix of early 90's Balkan wars and Syrian/Libyan/Iraqi civil wars of the past decade at worst. Beyond shutting their borders down and maybe providing material or financial support, neither Canada or Mexico is going to get involved. Nobody will get involved like that because the rest of the world will have to deal with the fallout of it. Repercussions of an actual US civil war would be far and wide. Everyone else would be too busy dealing with their own problems to intervene here.

You can’t have a civil war without two funded sides with constantly refreshed supply lines, cash to burn through, support of the population, and a shared goal.

Hicks with their “shot-gawnz” playing soldier don’t really count. You would need a governor or something to commission an army with outside support. Then, they would get flattened with half the cities in their state. Not sure if they realize, but, wars are tremendously expensive and destructive.
