Trump has completely corrupted the presidential pardon, time for some changes, don't you think?

Trump used the pardon to get people to commit crimes for him. Don't worry I will pardon you if you get caught.

He tells people who are being charged or investigated to keep their months shut when says he will pardon them.

He pardoned people who were imprisoned for crimes they committed with Trump.

Laws must be passed to end that bullshit.

All of Trumps power, his corruption, when he was in office happened because of loopholes in our laws. Trump is so freakishly immoral, he will not carefully, reluctantly, walk through a loophole in the law. He will gleefully dive head first through a loop hole in the law.

There is no law against that? YIPPEE!

those laws probably would be declared unconstitutional.

Something has to be done. This has become a threat to our democracy, the rule of law.

that directly contradicts the Constitution, and this Supreme Court would never allow an interpretation that impinges on the power of the executive branch. The Constitution says that the president "shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of impeachment." "Shall" is mandatory and the Constitution has consistently been interpreted as giving the president absolute power over pardons.

Who but fascists and dictator lovers would argue? What would be the counterpoint, cause cant think of anything in the real world where facts and history matter.

Pass a law.

Let Scotus decide if it’s ok for Presidents to use pardons as a political cudgel at will, unrestricted..handed out like an internet pastors certificate…even when attempting to destroy democracy…it’s a constitution written centuries ago in arcane language, can it be interpreted differently to end this monstrous new power…this court has done insane reinterpretations before, especially lately, so should be np with the constitution hurdle.

Also, before tRump Presidents more or less respected the written guidelines, there was even a pardon committee if memory serves,…all shredded like the toilet paper they were written on by pResident who don’t care for democracy.

That’s what needs to perhaps happen…a Presidential Pardons Committee of the House, with veto power and solid guidelines…like, no insurrectionists qualify.

and reintroduced in 1972 but it still hasn't been finally ratified - an amendment that should have been a no-brainer is still in limbo after almost 100 years. More than 11,000 constitutional amendments have been introduced and only 27 have succeeded. Hate to be a Debbie Downer, but amending the Constitution is a long shot in almost all cases.

And the chances of any amendment passing in today's current political environment is pretty much zero.

any change to them or restrictions on them would have to come through a constitutional amendment. Right now, such an amendment is not even close to being possible.

So, what I think about presidential pardons doesn't really matter. Really, what anyone things doesn't. Until there is the possibility of an amendment, it's all a waste of time, really.

Besides, Trump isn't President and can't pardon anyone now.

We should point to the danger of putting somebody as corrupt as trump in the position to issue pardons.
