If you consider what be has said in the past month or so about his own political allies, the high crimes he has publicly admitted he committed and his continuing insistence that we didn't see what we saw on 1-6-21, can you come to any other conclusion other than that we are witnessing the frenzied desperation of a cornered rat in a burning building?
I sure hope I'm right.

(21,562 posts)can be a very dangerous rat.
The closer we got to inauguration day following his election loss, the more frantic and dangerous he became to hold onto power via the 1/6 insurrection.
Now, the closer he is to total loss due to investigations and the charges to follow, the more dangerous he is again.
Not to mention the people ready and willing to take his place and carry on his legacy.
This is not a gloom and doom statement. It is a heads up that we are still fighting the battle for democracy and must never give up.

(21,381 posts)By dangling pardons he is telling his Magats to not cooperate and telling his Magats that if they do acts of violence in D.C., Atlanta, and NY, he will pardon them.
His ravings also are meant to scare people like Mike Pence. If Pence flips on Trump he gives prosecutors what they need to convict, "intent." This is why Trump ranted for the 1/6 committee to investigate Pence, he was sending a message to Pence not to cooperate or else.
He mentioned 3 locations, all 3 have investigations against him going on. He wants to intimidate the prosecutors in those 3 locations with acts of violence if they proceed investigating him. The Fulton county DA had to ask the FBI for protection.
Last but not least, is DOJ listening? The select committee has done a fantastic job, but it has no power to hold Trump accountable.

(3,328 posts)I wish, based on his history of inciting a violent mob of his devoted, brainwashed followers to help him orchestrate a coup d'etat against our democracy, be forbidden from congregating and speaking lies and false accusations about our democracy. The 1st Amendment, nullifies any chance of such a fantasy, on my part.
His words are dangerous. He's held enough pep rallies for his ego, and every other sordid thing he is about.

(6,842 posts)Then the nocturnal squeaks and scratches and we turned over and went back to sleep.
Then the contaminated dry goods in the pantry and we thought, "it's not too much, really."
Then when unseen vermin bit our child as she slept, we resolved to get to the bottom of this...some day, soon.
Then came the moment when, upon a floor littered with withered simplicidentatal placenta and detritus, the remains of our home, we slipped and fell knocking ourselves unconscious, whereupon the hungry rodents ate through our ear canals and into our brains and there was no one left to set the traps.

And somehow that disagreement has become a fight where people are personally insulted and combative against the opinion that he will not be indicted.
I don't think he will, but from where we sit, either option is as likely as the other, so I don't understand how this has become a fight rather than a difference of opinion.

(5,754 posts)and he will get on a private jet to the UAE? Would that be enough if he can never return, or would he be able to seek revenge from there? Would his followers sacrifice themselves and their guns in a final blaze of glory?

(5,810 posts)It is on a massive scale and a lot of it in front of the camera. Behind the scenes, it is probably still vintage tRump. Lots of screaming and yelling. Throwing objects. Threats of murder and mayhem. People ducking and hiding from his wrath.
He is in a different position now but thinks his old methods will work. Threats are coming at him from all sides so he is going to double down and hope that holds off whats coming at him.
I hope all of it fails and he does get indicted (for multiple crimes) and loses every single case. Then carted off to the pokey for the rest of his natural life. No perks. No favors. No bargains.
He is a very sick man but he knows what he is doing. So let the courts finally deal with him. And let the cold hard facts come out to inform his followers what they were following and admiring. He deserves all the ugly truth to be revealed. Now.
Next up: His criminal family. Hasten the day they fall, too.

(68,632 posts)pay his IRS debts as far as I am concerned. It will be hard to convict Trump anywhere. And I sure as hell don't want him exonerated. I think Garland is smart to go after Trumpsters first.

(15,223 posts)I dont believe for a second that Trump expects to be indicted. Hes too sure of himself. If he is ever charged with anything (and I dont think hes going to be), he will be completely surprised. I do not see him sitting in Mar-A-Lago worrying about going to jail. He will expect his lawyers to keep him safe, and he may have other means (Putin) as well.
He taunts his followers on a regular basis just to see if they are still willing to die for him. Many are.
Please understand that I would love to be wrong and would love to see the surprised look on Trumps face when the cuffs clicked. But I wont hold my breath.

(6,599 posts)He's emotionally very damaged, look at how his parents treated him. I've said many times that if only Trump's daddy had loved him, we wouldn't have this delusional narcissist on our hands today.
I'm convinced he has a profound lack of self-worth, no real self confidence, & a deep fear of being inadequate, a fear of "not being good enough" that haunts him.
That's what drives his narcissism & drives his ego. They are his attempts to make up for & emotionally compensate for his lack of self worth & feelings of inadequacy, & yes he overcompensates, a lot. But the fact remains that his ego is a facade, a disguise he wears to hide his real feelings & his real fears.
Of course he made his entire career using that false facade, projecting that ego, wearing his disguise of "success" & "confidence" when there never really was any. It's all he has & when it's threatened he will cling desperately to it & do anything to defend it.

(15,223 posts)But hes deranged, as well. He feels that HE is most important and that HE deserves power, etc.
Had he been raised differently, he would most definitely have been a different person. But we are stuck with him as an asshole who has lived 70-plus years getting away with everything and that emboldens him to believe he will continue to do as he pleases and face mo consequences.
Lord. What I would not give to see someone - anyone - just punch him in the face. Because something like that just might surprise him and he would most likely run screaming. Of course that wouldnt be civil.
Because when hes faced with civil procedures, he knows he has the money and the power and the influence to keep himself safe.
Again - now and always - I would love to be wrong and would gladly eat a heaping plat of crow to see him convicted.

(6,599 posts)In his mind I'm sure he thinks by being POTUS he can protect himself & shut down all the investigations into him & his companies.
Desperate people do desperate things, so we need to be prepared for him to do things that are more extreme than anything we've seen before.
Also, reading his recent lawsuits, he seems to be scraping the bottom of the barrel in terms of the attorneys he's hiring, they're pretty bad. It's pretty clear he's not going to be able to use legal means to stop anything as a private citizen, so of course he will look to illegal means. Hopefully getting himself in more trouble in the process.

(981 posts)How many "ducks" need to be in a row to arrest the former guy for sedition? He outright confessed and *nothing*. We are marching quickly to the mid terms, and by the time we get close to this they will say "we can't arrest him. It will look political!". This is just so much bullshit yet again. I have no faith that justice will be done - even if the Jan 6 committee yells "he's guilty!" from the mountain tops. It all comes down to whether or not the AG has the stomach for it, and I don't think he does. Let's face it, the 1% owns our government lock stock and barrel and they are not going to give the progressives any foothold EVER. kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin are proof of this.
Demsrule86
(68,632 posts)more later. I am a Progressive and want to see our policy passed. But I am a pragmatist and understand we need more Democrats...so let's get out and win hearts and minds at the grassroots level...And please consider an AOC progressive could not win a Senate seat in either Arizona or West Virginia. We need to be competitive everywhere (and should work towards that) but it is a bottom-up process and won't begin with Senate seats. Until then, I will gladly accept and work with any moderate/conservative Democrats so we have a majority.
