I received a stimulus check for $600 in January 2021 and a $1400 check in March 2021.

I started to file my taxes on tax act and was asked if I got a third stimulus check. I said no and
it said I was eligible for another $1400, is this right? When they asked about the third
check were they talking about the one I got in 2020 plus those two I got in 2021. Or should
I have received three in 2021. If I was due a third check months ago why didn't I automatically
receive the check months ago like the others? Very confusing. I don't want to claim the stimulus then later
find I have to repay it.

And one in early 2021.

The IRS is supposed to be sending a letter to all recipients of stimulus payments and advance child tax credits in 2021. I haven't gotten one yet though.

Has yours? Anyway, I was able to sign into my IRS account online. If you can do that, you can see the record of any Economic Stimulus Payments as well as any Advance Child Tax Credits.

Three checks went out. The first in April, 2020. The second one came in January 2021, then the third in March 2021.

I believe the first was $1200, then $600, then $1400.

You might be confused because the first one would've gone on last year's taxes. Whereas this year's only have the second and third check. Not that it matters. I don't think they're counting them for income purposes.

I completed my taxes last weekend, and they asked me about it, too. Which is weird, because I wasn't even eligible for stimulus.

The first 2 stimulus payments were based on your 2019 income, unless you had already filed your 2020 tax return. Some people whose income was higher in 2019 didn't qualify at first, but once they filed their 2020 tax returns, they found out that they did. That's where the Recovery Rebate Credit came into play. If you didn't get both stimulus checks in 2020, or didn't get the full amounts, you might have qualified after you filed your 2020 returns in 2021. But the third payment was definitely in early 2021, even though it was on the IRS's books in 2020.

I received a letter relating to the $1,400 but my husband didn’t receive one.

We weren’t sure if he also had received the $1,400 so we looked back at our bank deposit history.
We found the total amount for $2,800 that was deposited last year.

Try looking at the history of you checking account deposits.
Hope this helps.

guess I have to wait. By checking no I guess I am eligible according to my tax form but apparently I have already got it.
What ever happened to that file your taxes on a post card thing everyone promises. What a pain it the ass.

In that case you would need to enter $2800 not $1400 in that line item. When I filed using my online software, I wasn't thinking and entered $1400. My refund amount immediately jumped up $1400 which I knew I wasn't entitled to, so I figured it out and entered the correct amount.

Realized I got 3rd check last year.

It's confusing. Caused me to pay more in Oregon because we subtract what we owe in taxes for Federal and stimulus comes off the deduction.

The letter from the IRS said that I received a 1400 payment this year, only I don't recall doing so. I recall a payment in 2020 and then a much smaller one early in 2021.

Somehow I think this is going to screw up my taxes if I claim it.

My personal taxes I have been doing by hand for 25 years or so.

My income is all the stuff that is reported by 1099 or W2.
I can't remember how many stim checks I got either.
I figure if I owe taxes on that money, the gummint will send me the proper notification.

Is that true? What kind of form should I expect. I'm not paying taxes on it if they don't tell me to.

This part of the tax form is intended to find those who were entitled to the stimulus and never got it to get it now as a refund.

If someone already got it, and mistakenly stated on their taxes that they didn't, will get an extra $1400 refund they don't deserve. At some point, the IRS is going to demand that those people repay it. Too bad for them if they already spent it.

Mine, and my spouse's, each said $1400 which kinda surprised me since, like you, we each also got a check in January for $600. It is possible that the $600 one was for 2020. I was not asked yet about the stimulus check in my tax preparation so will see.
