In 2015, when he announced he was running, a number of people who knew him well commented that he didnt seem as with it as he used to be. And this language had become much less sophisticated. During his term, there was clear evidence that it was getting progressively worse. Word finding issues, memory problems, repetitive phrases, and sometimes, incoherence. Frankly, I think the White House staff did their best to hide how bad it had gotten from the public. Now, that he is out of office, he seems to have much less protection.
His most recent rally in Texas seemed to leave his followers confused even they couldnt understand what the hell he was saying. He was more incoherent than usual.

(58,785 posts)AND, his chances of NOT inheriting Alzheimer's would be GOOD even if he inherited genes from BOTH parents, instead of just one.
Otoh, we KNOW he's had other mental disorder for decades.
That an entire nation can have watched this depraved creep intensively for years now and still be in denial that personality disorders are real is part of what's WRONG. We should be very informed about this by now, instead of astonishingly ignorant.
Astonishingly.
If only dementia would take him out by 2024, but there's no reason to assume it will.

(2,256 posts)..really and truly babbling. Or even not able to communicate much at all or even dead."
Hell, he's been incoherent and babbling since he showed up on the debate stage in 2016...
But, if he reaches the point of inability "to communicate at all," he may not run. But I wouldn't bet on that...if he can still think, stand and wants to run, he'll run. And 50 million people will vote for him.

(20,629 posts)question the assassination attempt absolutely accelerated the path of cognitive decline. They say Alzheimer's patients have "good days & bad days" early on, and my father was a perfect example. I think that explained that first debate in '84, where he seemed to be in a fog. He then had a much better day on that second debate, and he rode that momentum to the landslide win a couple of weeks later.

(12,444 posts)It's run by an experienced SPAC runner...
Trump is nothing more than a majority shareholder, not a CEO...
It will finalize and the ticker will merge.
It's out of Trump's hands... it's all being run by Wall Street lawyers, accountants, investors and the SPAC runner and his team.
Ford_Prefect
(7,897 posts)much subterfuge was involved in raising it, and just how so much was raised without revealing Trump's name. SEC type questions, maybe even SDNY questions. When the AG of New York signs off on any interest in it I'll believe, otherwise I have doubts. Yes, I have read about the public relations story that they hid Trump's involvement in it from potential investors and that they have lots of previous SPAC building experience.
According to Cohen Trump will NEVER do a straight business deal. He always bends things his way and uses whatever edges he can build into it. I don't pretend to know how this is a bent deal. I don't know how long it may take to show that an important part of it is. Experience in building a SPAC may only mean they weren't caught out the last time they bent the rules, which seems a common enough theme in Wall Street dealing on this level. When the SEC rules out Russian Oligarch money being somehow laundered here, when the US Treasury Dept. and New York State Revenue say they aren't concerned, then I'll listen.
As far as his Net Worth is concerned, recent paperwork reveals have shown how suspect those claims are. He sits atop a financial house of cards of epic proportions. What ever his participation in the "deal" may have been said to be, we have no basis to accept that it is conventionally sound or vetted.

(12,444 posts)I'm a daily trader and follow this kind of news carefully.
There's precisely ONE contentious topic... did Trump discuss a SPAC with the SPAC runner BEFORE the SPAC was established?
If the SPAC runner solicited Trump before starting the SPAC, it's an SEC fine, a slap on the wrist for the SPAC runner.
But that accusation won't fly.
The SPAC runner actually had SEVERAL SPACS already up and running when he met with Trump. So there's literally no evidence that DWAC was created "for" Trump.
Just trust me on this...
Wall Street pros are running the show, Trump has no power and no way of changing ANYTHING with the SPAC.
He's the majority shareholder and the future pitch man for TMTG, nothing more.
Right now, DWAC has its own CEO and Board... and it ain't Trump.

(7,897 posts)What happens when the judge says he must surrender his investments in part payment for fraud?
How does TMGT get beyond that when the principle stockholder loses his day in court, over and over? Would they have a separation clause or some other technical exit should DJT lose his credibility as spokesmodel and figurehead? What happens to the other investors at that point? Who will the name the new entity after then, assuming a valid, functioning and legitimate media entity is built in the first place?
Who have they reported hiring to direct, populate and operate this entity? A pile of money can do many things. However it cannot run a media enterprise without capable and qualified people doing the work and making good the presumed contracts.
I was working in IT when the internet was the hot new investment area that no-one really understood. In some very real and tangible ways this project sounds like the kind of thing the money guys were flogging back then. Some people who thought they were serious investors got hosed badly when it turned out the prospectus was mostly hot air and jargon, and some of those people worked in the heart of Wall Street.

You haven't even got to criminal charges... then good luck convincing 6 Trumpist Jurors of guilt. Didn't think the Judge would allow 12 anti-Trumpers on the Jury, did ya?
DWAC right now is all about Truth Social, Trump's Twitter clone.
Like it or not... when the app launches, as soon as this month, it's likely to set records for Day One sign-ups.
This is about money. Wall Street investors who couldn't care less about Trump are investors. The shares were around $10, now they're $85. Fortunes have already been made, the market cap is over $3B now...
Trump is NOT running the show. He's the majority shareholder of a soon to be company with it's own CEO and Board. Add in the experienced Wall St. SPAC runners, bankers and lawyers...
To finish up... let's play unicorns and rainbow fantasy scenario...
IF Trump was charged with crimes, found guilty and actually sentenced to prison...
You think his credibility and popularity with the same people who would use Truth Social would go up or down?
Hmmmm?

(768 posts)Trump has always been incoherent, that's part of his shtick. It's a pleasant dream, but I can't imagine Trump backing down just because of dementia. As someone else pointed out it can take a long time from the early onset to final stages. He's only 75, in this day and age he could have another 20 on the planet.
Better than even chance he will run in 2024 - I'd give it 75%. If he doesn't win outright, the Fascist scum in Congress will try to install him via coup. And then shit will really and truly hit the fan here in this country.

(7,629 posts)He already is completely unhinged and was during running for reelection. He cannot string a sentence together. If you manage to listen to a few minutes of his rally rants, it sounds like a direct data dump of his brain with no filter whatsoever and no coherent thoughts. Just the same nonsense, often switching mid-sentence to another remark completely disconnected from the start of the sentence.

(1,979 posts)This is ALL just a grift. He (unbelievingly) convinced the GOP to pay for his legal fees. I would not doubt that there is some kind of a deal in there that he continues to do rallies so that he can continue to grift his sheep into donating, so he has to hint that he is running to keep them donating. Of course there is also the addiction to adulation, the need for manipulation and above all, the need to try to control anything he can while his world spins out of his control.
The walls are closing in - he is fighting battles from every side and the truth is being revealed. This has to be horrific for someone who has literally created an alternate reality that he not only lives in, but who he has convinced a good number of people, is real.
Can you only imagine how miserable a human must be if they have to create a completely separate reality to support the lies that are their life?
I look at his life and i look at what is happening to us as a spiritual species, and there are similarities. There is a "dark reality" and a "light reality". Is this a spiritual ascension where we are being given the chance to choose?
The world is becoming 50/50 - light and dark. I choose to live in the light. To do that, I must focus on the light so that it will shine out the darkness. We must all get ready to make that choice in order for the world and it's inhabitants to spiritually, and even physically evolve. The time is now and each voice matters. I don't care about gerrymandering, court stacking, whatever they have done - they have set it up and they are now ready to roll out their plan to pull us into their darkness. All we can do is support the light. Vote - take someone with you, volunteer, make calls, donate.
Each of us has a voice and each of us holds a candle for our future. I plan to light mine - will you light yours?
Namaste,
Annette
