Tom Cotton says slavery was a necessary evil

The modern ReTrumplican bristles at the notion that racism, at least systemic racism, exists. They seek to “cancel” such notions by banning teaching our children Critical Race Theory (which they were never taught anyway) or anything remotely suggesting that America has race issues. In so doing they have sought to deemphasize the parts of American history that might make whites “uncomfortable.” This cleansing has included everything from the documented history of black lynchings to the stories of Rosa Parks and a courageous little girl named Ruby Bridges.

To the lazy plantation owners that didn't want to do the work themselves...more profitable to force someone else that you don't have to pay to do it for you.

The plantation owners would have been better off without slavery. They were too short-sighted to see it.

They think addressing climate change will hurt their bottom line, when in fact it will create green jobs and improve the economy, both in the long and in the short term.

the lifestyle of British manor Lords in England. But they lacked a large enough peasant servant class. They tried to use Native Americans first, but NAs were free spirits in their own land. They kept escaping because they knew the land better than the colonists. They had friends and relatives to raid white settlers to free NA slaves.

So the colonists imported Africans to a strange land and climate, separated from their cultures by an ocean, and from relatives after being enslaved in America. They created a genteel life for themselves at the expense of enslaved people and reinforced their idea of an elite good life by relying on race enslavement to maintain an elevated life for themselves.

..anyone on the degree of racism in the country. I just don't fully comprehend the level of racism necessary to qualify as 'systemic'. It is sure as hell systemic in red states that write minority-suppressive election legislation. I will never forget Lindsey Graham's comments after the 2020 election:

?s=20&t=XwMK_kqJmpvEeslY9L_crQ

The 'internalized' and 'interpersonal' racism is more obvious within the GOP.

Afterall we should be comfortable teaching about our history, especially if it was necessary to get where we are. Hmm sounds like it would fit right into a law school CRT class, about how to redress the present effects of that prior "necessary evil"?

But good things? Can't afford 'em! It's not up to government or society to make sure all citizens are fed, clothed, and housed. Billions, trillions, of dollars poured into Afghanistan to watch it all crumble in days (if not hours) when the money spigot is finally shut off. That's when you heard wailing and gnashing of Republican teeth.

It was "necessary" to:

Kidnap them from their homeland
Stuff them into the bottom of ships where they were chained, barely fed, urinated and defecated on themselves (and having to endure the stench of themselves and other slaves) for months.
Sell them to plantation owners
Separate from their parents, siblings, spouses, children
Force them into hard labor
Force them to address their owners as "Master"
Whip them for not working hard enough, learning how to read and/or write, for escaping bondage
Arrested, returned, and punished while in northern "free" states
Rape females including children

and more human terror that went unpunished.

Necessary?

It's what happens when you find out your parents are both brother and sister as well as first cousins, making you both a son and a nephew to your parents, as well the great-nephew and grandson to your grandparents/great aunt and uncle.

When your family tree is a stick, you lash out.

That and he's racist.
