(7,715 posts)If this really happened, "God bless the USA", as L. Greenwood once sang.
Heaven knows, we will need some kind of intervention if something like this is allowed to happen.
Based on this, I cannot imagine what Mr. Locke did to deserve this. I am shocked.
And, then again, I'm not shocked.

Would like to see reason for warrant too.

(51,104 posts)The copaganda being put out says he was pointing it, video says different.
This was a no knock warrant, which means there was no knocking on the door before they piled in.
This guy was also not the subject of the warrant.

(22,742 posts)After a criminal conviction or delinquency adjudication for a felony crime of violence, your rights to possess firearms and ammunition are permanently taken away. This means you cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition for the remainder of your lifetime unless the court restores those rights.

(1,781 posts)in the video @ 00:34. He comes out from under the blanket with some huge ass pistol in his right hand.
So yea, bad move if you don't want to get shot.
On the other hand, let's discuss no-knock entry in the dead of night.
They were obviously serving a warrant. There's absolutely no reason it had to be done this way, and even though the guy appears violent (I mean, he did come out with a gun), he could have been in cuffs and alive if this sort of entry were made illegal. It is uncalled for, and a lot of people get killed because of it.
Nevilledog
(51,104 posts)He had done nothing wrong, cops weren't even looking for him, and he'd have no reason to think the cops were the ones breaking in. Isn't that why people have home defense weapons, to protect them from intruders?
ForgedCrank
(1,781 posts)that situation.
If you pull the gun out, someone is getting shot, it is almost a certainty. The blame lies on the way the warrant was executed, not the cop who pulled the trigger.
That's my entire point about these bullshit no-knock warrant raids. It doesn't matter if he was the target of the warrant or not, it boils down to the fact that he would still be alive today if this crap was illegal. This is not even close to the first time this has happened, even cops have been shot up. It's a natural response to someone busting down your door in the middle of the night. Hell, they even get the wrong damn house sometimes. It's bullshit and it needs to end. Another dead person because of no-knock entry, and the authorities who order them are responsible for this death.

(26,737 posts)I have no idea whether he did anything illegal, but he absolutely contributed to his own demise.
Imagine a scenario without police involvement. Just some guy staying at a friends house. I cant personally see sleeping in someones couch with a gun that close at hand, but well imagine that its the old west.
Four guys in body armor break in and point guns at you and scream. It doesnt matter whether theyre police or not
your self defense option is already gone. Theyve got the drop on you. You cant rationally go for your gun.
WhiskeyGrinder
(22,345 posts)people screaming and you can't see a thing. "Rational" has little to do with it -- and that's by design.

(26,737 posts)... you should be aware that you're adding risk to your life.
If it were my home and a guest wanted to sleep on my sofa with a handgun that close at hand... he would have to stay somewhere else.

(90,339 posts)... and that would be more parallel to what SHOULD have happened here.
I don't see were NK warrants are effective
FBaggins
(26,737 posts)At least in most situations.
But two people can both make mistakes that contribute to a deadly result. I'm about as pro 2A as a rational person can be... but it's still not defending the police to say that if (when startled awake in the night) you come up from sleep with a gun in your hand - you life expectancy is not particularly high.
I've been startled awake by thunder, or a sick child, or my wife having a nightmare. A gun being that available would introduce a ridiculously high amount of risk.

They went to the wrong place - as fucking usual.

(22,345 posts)And under the new policy he and Arradondo announced at the end of 2020, cops are supposed to announce themselves and their purpose "before the breach." Didn't see that happen here, unsurprisingly. Oh well, those cops will get a slap on the wrist for forgetting, thanks to "reform."
What a fucking mess this all is. FTP.
