The Republican Partys transformation under Donald Trump may have seemed sudden, but it was decades in the making. From New York Times political reporter Jeremy Peters, Insurgency: How Republicans Lost Their Party and Got Everything They Ever Wanted, examines the fracturing of the GOP and how party leaders misunderstood their own voters. Join us for a live conversation between Peters and MSNBC political contributor Yamiche Alcindor as they discuss how ideology and aggression came to take hold of the Republican Party and changed the course of American politics.

(15,330 posts)On thousands of Hate Radio stations in every nook and cranny in this country, what you hear from Retrumplicans is no different than what you hear 24/7 from everything from nationally syndicated hosts, to local morning drive shows.
Donnie Dipshit, Lauren Boebert, Merge Green, Louis Gohmert, Desantis, Abbott, Youngkin, Paul, Gosar...this is and ALWAYS HAS BEEN the Retrumplican Party
All they have done is switched from dogwhistles to bullhorns.
All they've done is taken the mask of decency and reason off.
They haven't lost shit.
What's been lost is our countries way.
What's they've lost is shame...NO!!! They didn't lose shame, we gave it away to them. We've removed the guardrails of civil society. All they are doing is driving the car in the way they've always dreamed of.
When they stop winning elections, then I will believe they have lost.
Millions of Texans are freezing without power for the second year in a row, but they will reelect the fucksticks that screwed them quicker than you can say Critical Race Theory.
That aren't lost, they're just reading the room.
America is the fucking lost one.
You have said it all too well. Thank you.

(54,379 posts)First there was Nixon who won in 1968 with his Dirty Tricks Team.
And they saw that it was good.
Then there was Reagan, who won in 1980 by making a deal with the Ayatollahs to hold our hostages until after the election.
And they saw that it was good.
Then there was W, who won with the help of his brother as governor of Florida, as well as a partisan Republican SCOTUS majority.
And they saw that it was good.
Then there was Trump, who got into office with Russian money, media maipulation, and questionable voter tallies in WI, MI, and PA.
OK, they had to be talked into thinking THAT was good, but they sure as hell think so now.
