The punishment applies to all those who did not seem genuine or profuse enough in their crying.
The Daily NK, a South Korea-based online newspaper run by critics of the North Korean government, reports that punishment will include six months in a labor training or re-education camp.

(20,917 posts)So if you did cry they could punish you if they think you faked it. So you are damned if you did damned if you didn't. Nice country there.

(14,400 posts)was at the mere contrivance of such an idiotic display, not so much the people obviously forced to do it.
It's like the idea of the magpies crying over the statue of great daddy. Everyone knows the damned birds are tied to the tree branches but there's no way in hell anyone is going to say anything about it.
Fear is a wonderful tool for the assholes running that hellhole.

Or at least put on a passable performance.
Huge egos should be illegal in rulers, in my opinion.

(4,578 posts)I can't imagine the ego that enforces this and under what belief system they feel the need to punish those who were not grief stricken enough. I can't fathom it.

People who are starving are often preoccupied with thoughts of food and have very little energy. The combination of the distraction and lack of energy can produce irritability."

(14,400 posts)good thing for the NK government that a real life he-man such as yourself isn't in country or I'm sure it would be game over. Just like Skyrim man... FUS-RO-DAH and end of the tyranny!

Of course you will. Actual assistance in affecting change would be too inconvenient, and would cut into your message board time, too.

(82,383 posts)North Korea's state-run news agency KCNA responded immediately to the report, calling it a smear campaign. The agency pointed out that even bears and magpies mourned the death of their Dear Leader.
They would not want to even think that anyone would fake it. It's a cult with all the advantage of having the state behind it.

(20,600 posts)scary that it is real. "The punishment applies to all those who did not seem genuine or profuse enough in their crying." I guess if I had to I could have put on a pretty good crying act for the authorities pleasure. lol. I would be rolling around on the ground as part of the climax!

(82,849 posts)People who exhibit insufficient grief over the passing of their Dear Leader, and who fail to heap the proper amount of encomiums on him are subject to punishment by the Party.

(980 posts)... sign a loyalty oath to the Dear Party.
The Genealogist
(4,723 posts)would help them reconsider signing such an oath. Today, sign an oath to Die Partei, and soon enough the slippery slope will lead to reeducation camps for not crying with proper gusto when Boehner turns on the water works. Show plenty of shots of the over-the-top mourning from NK. GOP prattles on about a communist socialist blah blah Obama, then demands an oath of allegiance to Die Partei. Absurd.
