GOP Rep. Jim Hagedorn of Minnesota has died

Rep. Jim Hagedorn, a Minnesota Republican who had been battling kidney cancer, has died, his wife announced Friday. He was 59.

"It is with a broken heart, shattered spirit and overwhelming sadness I share my husband Congressman Jim Hagedorn passed away peacefully last night," his wife, Jennifer Carnahan, wrote in a Facebook post.

"Jim loved our country and loved representing the people of southern Minnesota," she continued. "Every moment of every day he lived his dream by serving others. There was no stronger conservative in our state than my husband; and it showed in how he voted, led and fought for our country."

Last month, Hagedorn -- who was vaccinated -- tested positive for Covid-19 and was experiencing mild symptoms, and was hospitalized as a precaution since he was being treating for kidney cancer at the time.

I'm sure they'll hide it, but even though he was being treated for Cancer, Covid likely killed him. Kidney cancer is very serious, but with his resources treatment could have extended his life years.

No word on vaccination status.

If perhaps he pushed vaccines more, maybe he wouldn't have caught it, now he's dead.

He was fighting kidney cancer and to add harassment, including death threats, on top of that may be to much to expect

Required major surgery, but I made a complete recovery. You’re absolutely correct, it’s quite deadly.

On January 6th you were told “history will remember”

Jim Hagedorn voted to overturn the election on that day. His Washington Post obituary — a collection of significant events of a person’s life — doesn’t mention this and erases this fact from history

the Senate under Biden (until Hagedorn died, and Walz put in a Dem, who would flip the Senate (assuming it was 51-49 Rethug majority) until at least the midterms, and that likely would cause crazy upheavals and possible nationwide riots by the Rethugs, especially IF we passed a tonne of things in the next few months (although Manchin and Sinema might REALLY say no to many things at that point), plus confirm a new SCOTUS justice, as Breyer would likely announce his retirement post Hagedorn death)

But that is all speculation, as who knows what would be the actual situation if we had not controlled the Senate, AND, if we had no shot at controlling the Senate as the result of winning the 2 GA Senate run-offs, would we have won both?, or would have our turnout been lower?

...a Republican Senator who would make things better in the Senate by going away, and who wasn't already preventing us from holding our current slim control.

Between 2002 and 2008, Hagedorn ran a now-deleted blog, “Mr. Conservative,” where he posted sexist and racist commentary as well as homophobic innuendo and anti-Native American sentiment. Hagedorn told The Associated Press in 2014 that the blog was meant to be humorous and satirical.

In one 2005 post, Hagedorn wrote that President George W. Bush had selected a female Supreme Court nominee to “fill the bra of Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.” Another post described Washington state’s two senators, Patty Murray (D) and Maria Cantwell (D), as “undeserving bimbos in tennis shoes.”

In 2008, Hagedorn thanked Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) for choosing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin ― whom he called “the feisty Caribou Barbie” ― as his running mate. “On behalf of all red-blooded American men,” Hagedorn wrote, “THANK YOU SENATOR McCAIN, SARAH’S HOT!”
