NYC: Another Adams Pick With Anti-LGBTQ+ Views Shows 'Trend'

The City

A 2013 mayoral candidate who was against marriage equality has been appointed to Mayor Eric Adams’ immigration office, sparking outrage from staffers and advocates who see a pattern within the new administration.

Erick Salgado was picked this week to be assistant commissioner of outreach at the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, working on initiatives for the city’s millions of immigrants.

It’s his first job in government according to his bio. Salgado is also a pastor at the Iglesia Jovenes Cristianos in Brooklyn and runs a Spanish-language ministry radio station.

Salgado ran unsuccessfully in 2013’s Democratic primary for mayor, where his stance against marriage equality was brought up throughout his campaign.

and appointed two racists to his administration, he would be forced to unappoint them so fast our heads would spin. I fail to see why this is being tolerated.

Hillary Clinton.

She didn't come out in support of it until March of 2013.

Obama came out in support of it in 2012.

Careful about going with that standard. And it's such a thin standard as well.

President Obama didn't come out for it until the year before. So where's the cut off here? What's the date?

I've moved past most of it, except a few people who refuse accountability for past homophobia (see: "I was hacked!" ).

If this person is anti-LGBT now, that's a different matter.

5. And the most important thing, it isn't what he says he believes, it is his actions that matter.

Will he actually support the rights of immigrant LGBT+ New Yorkers now?

I just thought the 2013 thing was odd. Like, who cares? I wouldn't use that date as a reason given many other figures in our party.

But here's him on Twitter a little more recently, in 2016:

Bill DeBlasio wants you to allow your daughters to share the bathroom with a transgendered. Shame on him.
