This story is heartbreaking. Rent for these lower-income residents includes water, so God only knows where that money went. They have not been able to bathe, shower, eat, do dishes, or go to the toilet because management has somehow fallen behind on payments. Port-o-johns were set up in the parking lot, and groups were donating microwavable meals and bottled water. Luckily, the city stepped in and the water is back on. For now.

There are health and safety issues with low-income housing all over this city. Negligent landlords, toxic mold issues, broken plumbing, suspicious fires — now this. Renters have next to no rights in this state, and that goes double if you’re poor. A mom crying because she couldn’t give her child a bath — .

People trying to do their best get knocked down at every turn, it seems.
