When he was 14 years old, Rob Kenney's father abandoned him.
After he became an adult, he launched a YouTube channel called "Dad, How Do I?" that teaches kids to do things that a dad would normally teach them.
He has more than 18 million views.

(9,979 posts)pointed this channel out to me some years back. I think it's great. One of my grandkids lost his dad as a teenager. The rest of them fortunately have dads, but they're not good at everything.

(11,563 posts)I won't call him a hero, because that word has become almost trite. But he is a role model so strong, he is a beacon of hope.

(25,981 posts)This is a godsend, and not just for kids. There are so many things here (hello, patchy lawn issues) that I'd love to learn to deal with, and what a great guy to put up such helpful videos.

(759 posts)Im so fortunate to have had a father that taught me things like this. I will limit this to one story:
My dad took out a neighbors mailbox when his car did a 180 in the snow on the way up a steep hill near our home. The next day he grabbed the tool kit and we went to repair the damage. Two lessons, one was how to reattach the box to the post, second and more important was to take responsibility for yourself and own your mistakes.
For my father and Nevilledog.
