One of the few memories I still carry from my only business trip to NYC in the early 70s for an AES convention was the frightening smell of burning wood and trash in the subway tunnels.
The only other distinct memory is that of one of our associates with a group from Utah trying to make a deal with a prostitute in a bar. This was one hell of a shock to a country boy from Tennessee just out of college and who still had feelings of guilt for even going in a bar.
Also, the cranky smart-ass attitudes of waiters in restaurants.
