Ukraine-born journalist Larisa Alexandrovna (DU,HuffPost): Ides of March
Larisa Alexandrovna Horton
The Ides of March. Take all oligarch money, property, evict all of their spoiled brats from EU and American schools. Suspend all travel visas. Don’t buy or sell anything to or from them. Deny them medical treatment everywhere outside of Russia. Don’t let them land their planes or park their yachts. Issue international arrest warrants for all of them. Make it impossible for them to breath as free men. Then they will take care of Putin. The oligarchs are the only ones who can stop Putin now. And he must be stopped. We know what he is. We have seen his kind before and we did not act early enough. He’s got nukes. And I am no longer confident that we are dealing with a sane creature. Ides of March. No war. Just a clean fix. Tell me I am wrong?

1. I agree. This is the answer. They are all about the money. And they hold
all the cards within Russia.
He can disappear if they disappear him. |

9. Larisa posted this earlier on FB.
It makes perfect sense to me, so I brought it here.

7. That is my sense,
as well.
Is this realistic? Anyone who can be specifically targeted? |

8. I think we'll see the noose tightened on a daily/weekly basis now
The EU is not ready to cut Putin off from SWIFT yet, but I can easily imagine the images and death toll coming in from Ukraine, a list of atrocities and war crimes as Putin pushes his soldiers to bring Ukraine down. I can also easily imagine Ukrainians refusing to give up, making Putin and his men bleed in a war of attrition. Always costly.
The more horrified and outraged alliance countries become, the greater lengths the democracies of the world will be willing to go. Boris Johnson is already talking about property seizure, a direct hit to Putin's oligarchs and buddies. This could happen everywhere. Take away all the toys, all the goodies these thugs have enjoyed with impunity and I think we're likely to hear a good deal of shrieking inside Russia. Putin is going to isolate himself through these actions. Instead of Putin the Great, he's more likely to be known as Putin the Pariah. |

10. If this goes horribly wrong for Putin who will his successor be?
Worse, or more of the same, just a little less overt... some committee.
I don't think there is a "better" at this point and that's what keeps me awake at night. |

12. I suspect Putin started this thing rolling expecting Trump would be reelected.
He miscalculated and couldn't claw it back.

13. THAT is the problem.
We know he’s a genocidal mass murderer.
What’s to stop him from nuking the planet, besides his generals? |
